DavidD458 Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 First time user here - any tips are very welcome! I clicked the site's link to PRICELINE. I tried for a 4 star at $99/night just to go very low with nothing to lose.. It got rejected. I'm staying April 24-28 and currently have something booked for $208/night at the Double Tree in Santa Monica ($948 total after tax). So I'd like to save some money based on that price. That's actually in one of the small 2-room suites at the Double Tree, but I wanted to check Priceline in case there were any solid deals. I'd rather not do something at $200/night since I'd prefer to pay the extra $30 for the suite.Any help is much appreciated! I'd probably be willing to go down to the 3.5* range, but wanted to try out 4 star first to see if I got any luck. Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! How high would you like to bid at the 4* level before lowering your star level to the 3.5* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. DavidD458 Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 I'd be willing to go up to $150, but I'm not sure if that's considered outrageously low for the area. Never been to CA before and I've only used priceline once. ;)
thereuare Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 I understand that your budget is $150, but in trying to determine a bidding strategy we need to know if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated (4*) vs. a lower rated hotel (3.5*) OR if you're goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay.In other words, if a 4* hotel was available for $150 and a 3.5* available for $120-$130, would you prefer the higher rated hotel for a little more money OR would you prefer the less expensive 3.5* property?Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. DavidD458 Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 Whoops, sorry.I'd be willing to do $150 for the 4 star and $140 for the 3.5 star. One of the 3.5 stars is actually the place I'm reserved with right now. Actually, the rate just got knocked down on that hotel to $199/night vs. the $208. Thanks again for the help.
thereuare Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 At both the 4* and 3.5* levels you have FOUR re-bid zones.
