onechionly Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Hello Everyone,I have a stay coming up in Big Island, from 4/6/12 - 4/11/12. I have not had any success on bidding for a resort/4 star hotel in Waikoloa and Kona. I have tried prices from $100-$130 a night and have not had any success. I used Hilo as a free rebid. I believe that my offers are sufficient or over the average winning bids for a resort/4 star. Out of frustration I used a $200 bidding price and I was still unable to reserve a stay. I went to Marriot Waikoloa Beach Resport and Spa website and they are willing to sell me a room at $179 a night.I am trying to figure out the bidding strategy on priceline, but it seems that my bids are rejected not because of price but perhaps for some other reason?Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thereuare Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you've bid as high as, and are wiling to pay $200 for this trip, why not just book the Marriott at $179... or look at HOTWIRE which has 4.5* properties starting at $184 and 4* hotels at $171?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Felix W Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Hi onechionly,I won a bid for $90.00USD per night at Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa (Kona, HI) 4/29 - 5/2, 3 nightsI started with resort at Kona and tried $85, rejected, then add Hilo to my selection, tried $90, and got accepted. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
onechionly Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 Felix,How long ago was your successful bid. I am afraid perhaps I am getting too close to the dates fo my stay and am afraid I might not be able to secure a hotel.
thereuare Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 You can see Felix W's win in this Priceline hotel thread, but his/her success vs. your rejection is not likely due to the amount of time before the stay that the win was won, but due to rates for your dates being higher than for his/her dates. If you've bid as high as, and are wiling to pay $200 for this trip, why not just book the Marriott at $179... or look at HOTWIRE which has 4.5* properties starting at $184 and 4* hotels at $171????Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
