TOfoodie Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Hi everyone!First off, this site is great and I appreciate everyone's thoughtful posts. Big thanks to the folks who run the community! Here's my situation: in the past 24 hours, I've bid 12 times (using the strategy described here) and haven't had any luck with my bidding on Priceline. So here's my first post, asking for your help.Details:Dates: May 26-30, 4 nightsDesired locations: Central Park South, Midtown West, Midtown East, Lower East Side, Chelsea and Soho/Tribeca. I'd also be OK with Times Square, Empire State Building and MSG but prefer those as a last choice. I do not want to stay in the Financial District.Hoping for a 4 star hotel but the max is about $180/night So my questions are: 1. 4 nights seems longer than average. Would it help if we split our bid into two two-night stays?2. Are we hoping for something that's unrealistic? We would also consider a 3.5 star hotel, but at a much lower bid, max $135/night if this doesn't work out.I'd appreciate any other advice or strategy changes. Thanks!
Verbat Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Hello TOfoodie,If you check the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins (Tools on top -> Calendar of Wins) you will see that there is already someone that won the Affinia Dumont in the Empire State Building area at $180. So the price you want is possible. You still have 2 months to your visit and it's a lot of time so i would suggest keep trying few times a week and i'm sure you will be able to find something in your price range of $180.From my experiences (bids that i won) the closer you are to your date the better chance you have to win what you want. Hotel usually stay with available rooms and prefer to sell them at a lower price than not to sell them at all.And i would suggest you to try and split your bidding for 2 nights and 2 nights. Much better chances of actually winning something because 4 nights at a cheap price is a lot for a hotel.Again, keep trying and i'm sure you will be able to win something.
TOfoodie Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 @Verbat: Thanks for the tips and encouragement! You're right about the Affina Dumont. I saw that on the Calendar and will open up my bidding to the Empire State area if splitting my bids into two doesn't work. I'm an impatient person and just want to get the accommodations set. I'll let everyone know how I do. Thanks!
Verbat Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Ye, i know what you mean.. I always like to know that my trip is set and i have everything i need but with bidding it's better to have patience specially when you have 2 months before your trip.

TOfoodie Posted March 30, 2012 Author Report Posted March 30, 2012 Hi everyone,Please help me identify this NYC hotel offered through Hotwire. I'm going to NYC May 26-30 and considering booking two different hotels, each for two nights if it helps get a cheaper rate. It also gives us a good opportunity to see different areas of the city. Anyway, Hotwire has a 4 star boutique hotel in the Central Park area for $201/night. Its amenities include: boutique hotel, smoke-free rooms, fitness center, business center and hi-speed internet. 85% of Hotwire customers recommend this hotel. Based on this site's Hotwire hotel listing, I suspect it's On the Ave, but its Trip Advisor ratings are 4 out of 5, not quite 85%. Any thoughts? Thanks,A
AaronJB Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. This amenity set has been seen with On the Ave, so that would be my guess. The 85% is the HOTWIRE customer % rating and doesn't have anything to do with the TA rating.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
