Thereuare,

Im looking for a post I read previously that described the downtown new york zones and gave your opinion of each. I even remember you referencing a bagel shop in one area. Do you know of the one I'm asking. If so will you post and give me the link.

Thanks,

Greg

Is it this NYC Priceline Zones thread? While still mostly valid, that thread is almost 10 years old (which makes me realize just how far the board has come) and since then PRICELINE has changed zone names, boundaries, and added new zones too.

I'd suggest using that thread as an overview but confirming any bidding you intend to do before proceeding... or if you let us know your parameters (desired star rating, budget, purpose of the trip, etc, etc) we'll try to suggest some recommended zones.

That was the one. Had no idea that was 10 years ago. Is it still pretty accurate? Heading to New York to do the tourist thing (15th anniversary). We are going to several plays and want to see a few sites. We would like a 4* or better. What would be a good place to start on the bidding? I'm aware of the rebidding zones (7). But what is a typical win for early June? I already when through the bidding process on priceline with no success(140-175) using mte,mtw and south central park.

Personally, I particularly like the MTE/ESB areas; very nice areas, calmer (in comparison), convenient and (generally) less expensive than other, nearby zones. Early June is unfortunately still in the midst of the busy early Summer season - prices do come down as the temperatures climb in July/August. As for sights, I continue to highly recommend the Intrepid Museum (an aircraft carrier parked in the Hudson, which was revamped as a museum), which is not only a unique experience, but offers really nice views of the surrounding area from the deck.

What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?

Looking at the Calendar of Wins i can see that people won 4* hotels for $160-$170 in MTE and like AaronJB said MTE and MTW are great areas and i always prefer to stay there as well.

For June having a 4* hotel for $160-$170 is a great deal and i'm not sure you will be able to find something cheaper unless you want to wait for the last few days before you arrive and hope that hotels wont be full and offer lower prices.

Now as you said there are 7 re-bidding zones in NY and if you bump the price by $5 each time you can play with $35 when bidding. Seeing that someone did win a hotel for $160-$170 i would say start from $160 and go up slowly up to your maximum bid. I think that you should be able to win something at around $170-$190.

Of course have patience, you have a lot of time until June and i would suggest bidding several times a week until you win something.

We would like a 4* or better.

At 4* and higher the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB zones all typically work well for the average user. Are all of these zones acceptable OR do you want to only stick with the ones you bid previously?

Currently i'd guess you're looking at ~$185-$210 to be successful for a 4* in these zones.

First time to New York. Wife and I are celebrating an anniversary and would like to stay in Manhattan near shows and tourist things. Looking for a four star, and based on my reading, the zones MTE, MTW, TS, ESB, and maybe CPS. I'm familiar with the bid zones but would love a strategy. Also, I haven't seen many wins posted for this weekend. What would be a good place to start bidding? I know it is a busy time of year. Not to worried about the cost, just want a good deal and good location. Any advice would be appreciated.

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

At the moment i think you're likely looking at $200-$220 for a centrally located 4* hotel (i actually think a little higher, but as you get up to $220 there are other options thru traditional booking channels that i would first consider as a back-up)

Is $220 acceptable and are you willing to bid up to this amount at this point in time?

Please confirm and we'll advise accordingly.

Thanks for pulling up my previous post. Just bid on MTE, MTW, and TS with all the rebid zones from 160-199 with no luck. I am still probably a little low. I will try again tomorrow with higher numbers. Any additional advice on strategy would be great.

Just went through the strategy. Won the Affinia Shelburne in Empire State Building area for $223/night. 1 room / 4 nights. 6/7-6/10. Getting ready to read a little about the hotel but excited about the win. Hopefully a nice property.

Congratulations on your success!

This is a nice hotel centrally located just about 3 blocks from Grand Central Station.

If you like margaritas, head down to Third Ave between 38th and 39th St. is 'El Rio Grande' where the frozen margaritas are not cheap... but they're very strong and go down easy. The chips and salsa served at the bar are very good too... but eat your meal elsewhere.
