Verbat Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 You still have almost 2 months until you arrive to NY.Priceline has an option to set alerts for winnings so what you can do is go to priceline and set an alert in your account that each time someone win a hotel in the areas you want with the price you want or lower the website will send you an email saying that someone won a price X in area Y.It does not tell you what dates the winning was at so it can be a problem......
thereuare Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Since you're coming during high season, you would receive multiple alerts informing you of lower priced wins which would be meaningless for your own stay, imo. Both of the HOTWIRE hotels above are priced above your stated maximum bid, are you seriously considering these for purchase right now or would you first be trying to win via PRICELINE?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Ilovenyc Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi there,I would want to try my luck with Priceline first and then go to hotwire if I don't get any bids.I am looking for 2 rooms in the range 180 - 200 dollars per room per night in the following areas:Downtown - financial districtMidtown eastEmpire State BuildingThank you.
thereuare Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 I would want to try my luck with Priceline first and then go to hotwire if I don't get any bids.So let's move forward with PRICELINE first and then we'll research HOTWIRE hotels if/when we come to that point, as these may not even be the hotels offered on HOTWIRE once you're ready to consider that step (and it's also possible that if you'll be paying $250-$300 on HOTWIRE that you'd sooner try bidding again on PRICELINE at a maximum bid of more than $200/nite)When bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Downtown and ESB...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Downtown and ESB and MTE...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Ilovenyc Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi there,I tried with the above strategy on priceline.com, no luck yet :(. Please advice on next steps. Thanks
Verbat Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Keep trying, few times a week... You still have a lot of time before your trip.
thereuare Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 As you've tried up to your limit do you want to:-wait it out and hope for lower rates in the weeks ahead-raise your maximum bid-lower your star rating-add other nearby zonesYour thoughts? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Ilovenyc Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 Yes, I just tried an hour back and found no luck. I am not sure about raising maximum bid. I am hoping to wait and see how it goes in the couple of weeks. Also, I was looking at the options of staying in Jersey city? May be....Thanks for you time!
Verbat Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Look at the Calendar of Wins there are wins in the areas you want for the price range you are looking for. It means that you can and will win what you want at some point.Maybe you can even try and split your stay for 2 nights in one hotel and another night in a different hotel.Jersey city is an option as well but of course it's out side the city so it all depends on you. I do believe that you can and will get something at the price range you are looking for.
Ilovenyc Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 Hi,I just looked at the Calendar of Wins and I saw Hilton (Newyork Fashion district) hotel in the Chelsea area. I looked at the reviews and the hotel seemed good. I am going to try my luck in the chelsea area now.what are the other 4 star hotels in the priceine for chelsea area? Any idea? Thanks a lot!
Verbat Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 According to the Pricelien Hotel List this is basically the only 4* hotel in that zone.
