ZGolfer18 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I am interested in bidding for a 4* or higher hotel. I would like to spend around $200 a night all in. I would like to stay in the following zones: CPS, MTW, TS and MTE. Can you provide some guidance on bidding strategies? Thanks.
Verbat Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I think it's kinda early to bid for December and $200 for those areas at that time if the year is low. That's my opinion. You can always try....
thereuare Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I actually think that your budget will be enough (if not enough it would be very close, likely not requiring much more than another $10 or so). Please first click each of these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links and then reply to this thread, we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow.Thanks. ZGolfer18 Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 I clicked on the links. How much of a price difference would there be for a 4 or 5*? I would like to try bidding on a 5* first, realizing that the cost could be much higher. Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I don't think you'll likely succeed for a 5* hotel within your budget about (~$165 bid price) but if you want to give that a try, Times Square is the only zone that currently offers 5* bidding, and you there fore have 17 re-bid zones when bidding 5* in NYC. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Times Square...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185I went a little higher than your budget since you may want to pay a little more for a 5* vs. your budget for a 4*, but you're of course free to stop at any bid amount you'd like. Any questions feel free to ask.If/when the above is rejected and you'd like to try for a 4* post back and we'll revise to try for a 4* property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ZGolfer18 Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 No luck on the 5*, but that doesn't surprise me. As for the 4*, I would like to stay within the 4 zones I mentioned previously (CPS, MTW, TS and MTE). Can you help with a strategy? Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 When bidding the 4* level in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. ZGolfer18 Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 I am familiar with the re-bidding process, but can you confirm the 7 zones for NYC? 4: Coney Island8: Long Island City9: Lower East Side10: MSG13: Morningside Heights14: Queensborough17: Upper East Side
thereuare Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct... but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ZGolfer18 Posted March 24, 2012 Author Report Posted March 24, 2012 I have bid up to 170 for TS, CPS AND MTW with no luck. Am I bidding too far in advance?
AaronJB Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 This is generally a somewhat quieter period between Christmas and the extremely busy NYE time period (and certainly less busy than the early portion of December, which is one of the worst periods of the year), so I think if you have tried up to $170 for a 4*, I wouldn't go any higher at this point, and continue working up to that point (starting lower and working up to $170) once every couple of weeks. I definitely wouldn't go any higher than $170, though, if past years are any indication for this time period.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Verbat Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 I agree with AaronJB, except of 26th of December which is Boxing Day the dates between Christmas and New Years are more calm and it's possible to get lower prices, with that said it's very early and i am not sure that hotels lower prices so long before the actual date. Remember that hotels offer lower prices for Priceline and Hotwire when they see that they are not fully booked, you still have 8-9 months before your visit.Keep bidding once or twice a week and i am sure you will be able to get a nice price.
thereuare Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 HOTWIRE has what i'm guessing to be the W New York for $187/nite if you are interested in this property and want to be 'done' with this sooner rather than later. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way.
