Priceline Hotel: 4 * San Francisco 10/16/12 - 10/21/12

Hello,

I want to go to San Francisco and between 10/16/12 and 10/21/12, but prices are much higher than usually reported in this forum, both Hotwire and Priceline for the 4 * hotels

I bid up to $ 163 in Priceline unsuccessfully. In hotwire prices are above $ 300.

Is there any particular reason these prices?

Is there any expectation from falling prices?

There may be a convention or other event going on during these dates. What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay? What zones are you interested in staying in/have you bid in so far?

I assume you have included all of your acceptable zones when you previous bid up to $163? If you have already included all acceptable zones in your bidding and have bid up to (or over) your maximum bid there isn't much more you can do excpet:

1) wait it out and hope for lower prices in the weeks/months ahead

2) lower your star rating

3) include other nearby zones

4) SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID

Are any of these viable options or given your stay is more than 6 months away do you prefer to wait it out and hope for lower prices down the road (although if HOTWIRE rates are at $300+ i would think they would need to drop considerably before you have a realistic chance at your $150 target price)

EDIT TO ADD: i did find a dental conventional taking place during your stay (10/18-10/21) and i don't know how large of a show it is, but if it's a big one, it could very easily explain the high prices you're currently seeing.
