Hi there everyone,

Myself and my girlfriend are coming from the UK to New York for a week, arriving on Sat 28th April and leaving on Sat 5th May. We're ideally looking for something 4* or higher - 5* would obviously be nice!

We're not too fussed on location other than it would be nice to be in Times Square/Theatre region or general area around central park.

Ideally our budget would be a very maximum of $150 a night...would be really really hoping to get something nearer the $80 - $100 mark, is this possible or am I not being realistic?

I am a first-time priceline user and could do with a bit of help in getting the cheapest deal we can for a good hotel. Wondering if I should even be bidding now or should we be leaving it closer to the time of our trip?

We will use the PRICELINE links on this site to start any bidding that we do...have registered with the Priceline US site.

I would really appreciate your help on this!

Many thanks,

Chris

Welcome to BetterBidding!

We're not too fussed on location other than it would be nice to be in Times Square/Theatre region or general area around central park.

At the 4* level the most frequently bid zones are MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB... are all of these acceptable?

...would be really really hoping to get something nearer the $80 - $100 mark, is this possible or am I not being realistic?

Probably not realistic for this time of year.
Wondering if I should even be bidding now or should we be leaving it closer to the time of our trip?
This is an expensive time of year and if you are successful at $150 or less, i don't think there would be too much risk of seeing prices much lower in the weeks ahead.

We will use the PRICELINE links on this site to start any bidding that we do...have registered with the Priceline US site.

THANKS!

Let us know regarding the zones above and if you want to start bidding now and we'll advise accordingly.

Hi, thanks for coming back to me thereuare!

All those zones you've suggested would be acceptable to us, also probably the Soho zone too. I don't really know much about the NYC area to be honest, it will be my 1st time there...as long as we are fairly close to transport links we'll be happy I guess.

We're happy to start bidding now, if prices aren't likely to be coming much lower in the coming weeks we're probably best to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later and start bidding now.

Once again, many thanks for helping us out with a strategy...it is much appreciated.

Excellent, I'll give this a go and will report back as soon as I have any info.

Just to confirm...when you say "if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE", does this mean I have to wait the 24 hour period before I access priceline again via that link to start bidding with the next list of prices you've given me?

You can do the entire cycle above in one 24 hours period since the strategy above is ordered in a specific manner so that each bid is unique and not a subset of a previously rejected bid. :)

No joy so far with that strategy.

Would it help if I added some extra areas such as upper west side, chelsea and downtown financial district?

Also, should I increase my budget to $175?

Hi dribble,

At this time of the year in NY i would say that getting a price lower than $150 per night will be almost impossible.

Another problem that i see here is that you are trying to book a lot of nights in one hotel, there is a possibility that if you try to split your stay you will have a better chance of getting a good price. Try placing bids on the first 2-3 nights, then a different bid on the rest of the nights or even 3 different hotels.

I know it's a lot less convenient but you will have a better chance this way.
