I am looking for a double room at 3* hotel in NYC except in these three zones:Brooklyn,Coney Island, Long Island City. No other specific requirements.

I have tried many times with this strategy posted before:

I have tried until $120, still not successful. Is there any suggestion how far to go?

Another question is: everytime after my unsuccessful bidding, I got emails from pricelind. The tips for successful bidding are much lower, just $95-$110, which I have tried myself, but unsuccessful.

I donot understand where my problem is. Can you help me?

Lol, I wondered the same thing. I'm still at 150, but have added in 2.5* and still no luck. I do have hotwire set to auto-reload though :) I'll let you know if I make any progress

Once it starts getting into mid-April and the early Spring season, prices unfortunately start ramping up. There may also be something going on on your dates (convention, etc?) resulting in a higher bid being required. What would be your desired max budget per night for these dates?

I have checked HOTWIRE, there is one offer in downtown SOHO, 3,5*, $145, it is also the reason I thought with $120 I should have got a 3* room. Do you have other suggestion? Thanks.

You might have a chance if you include DT-Financial in your bidding, but if you stick with the zones above, i'd guess you may be looking at $160-$185 based upon current rates (which could always change between now and your stay)

Hi - just wanted to let you know I changed my dates to 7-13, and wound up with 4* Kitano in Empire State Bldg zone for 175.

The zones I was working with were: Central Park South, Chelsea, Madison Square Garden, Midtown West, Empire State and Times Square with 3.5* and 4* ratings.

Earlier, I had bid on 2.5 stars and up in Madison Square Garden for up to 170 with no luck.

A 10-15 minute walk from this hotel is a restaurant i recommend frequently on the board as it's reasonably priced (by NYC standards) and a good value for the money (although i also always point out that drinks are a bit over priced):

It's a restaurant, not a slice shop, and stick with the rectangular 'grandma style' pie which is what they're best known for... think of a non-thick Sicilian pizza.

Can I ask how we might be able to replicate your success. I am booking for those exact dates, April 12th-16th and my budget is right around the 120 mark. I was going to stay outside Manhatten and the surrounding close areas the site suggests but if I can get your kind of deal, there might be hope of staying in a central location like you are.

Is there a way to replicate your success considering you got "upgraded"

It is a kind of automatical upgrade, my bidding was always 3*. But you can see from the bidding history, $130 for this particular hotel happens quite often, I think you can try from $125, if not accepted, add $5.
