andrew49 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 We are flying from England to the States in August and as part of the trip, we are staying for 5 nights in New York (2 adults and 2 children (15&13) and wanted to stay centrally, so thought Times Square area was a good place to start looking. Seems to be $300/night for a reasonable star rating in that area for the 4 of us, looked at Priceline as a way of getting the cost down, but how do I ensure that the hotel can take 4 of us in one room as you can't specify the room type as part of the bidding process ??? Could we get stuck with the right price, but for a double room ?Any tips or help would be much appreciated.
AaronJB Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed. While one can request two beds with the hotel, the hotel can say no or charge more. The issue with NYC is that rooms at most properties are smaller-than-average and, in some cases, much smaller (rooms at 130-150 sq ft are not unheard of, even at higher-end properties.)Additionally, Times Square is the most famed/popular area, but it's also by far the most crowed, hectic and expensive area - other Midtown areas nearby are less crowded and often less expensive (yet, aren't far from TS.)HOTWIRE, where one can indicate the amount of people in the room and ensure some form of bedding for the party (2 beds or 1 + sofabed, etc). If you search for these dates on HOTWIRE, are there any listings of interest? If so, please list the zone, star rating, price per night (US$) and full list of amenities.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

andrew49 Posted March 13, 2012 Author Report Posted March 13, 2012 If Times Square area is expensive, can anyone suggest a good area of New York for us to stay, we will be going to all the usual places, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, theatre district, shopping and of course various restaurants, we wont have a car in New York, so will be relying on Subway and Taxi thanks
thereuare Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 The most popular zones are MTE, MTW, TS, ESB, CPS and MSG. However, depending upon the star level you're seeking some of these zones may or may not available or there may be some 'caveats' you need to be aware of before including these zones.Let us know the actual nites of your trip, your desired star level and your expected budget, we'll have a look at some of your options and advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
