GroovyGeek Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Anyone recently bid on 3-4* hotels in Paris? Opera Quarter, St. Germain/Latin Quarter, or Champs Elysees? Hotwire of Priceline OK.Thanks!
Romelle Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 If you use the white (not orange) Search box above right you can get an answer to your question, even if the bidder happens to not be on line currently. You can enter just "paris", or refine it with the name of one of the zones. Then make sure the search is set to Forums, and hit the little green box.If you haven't found it yet, under Tools is the Calendar of Wins. You can use that to check your specific dates. You might also just enter your dates in HOTWIRE to learn what their current offer is. If you see something possible, you can post back here with the amenities listed and get help guessing what the hotel might be.Romelle

Thanks for being polite :-)If you haven't found it yet, under Tools is the Calendar of Wins. You can use that to check your specific dates.NIFTY!!! My trip is quite a ways but I will surely be coming back to check. In the mean time I will make a cancelable reservation as a backup.I am looking at 9/9-9/11, 3* or 4*, trying to stay under $150/night. Years ago we stayed a Hotel Henry IV Rive Gauche and found it perfectly acceptable, their rates are now over $275/night though, a bit salty for a 3* hotel :-)When I do start bidding I will probably be bidding on hotels in zone 3(Champs Elysee), zone 9 (Jardin des Tuileries), and zone 8 (Les Halles). These are all within walking distance of all the tourist traps. I assume that combinatorial strategy is best? I am reluctant to include zone 10 (St. Germain) as it looks to stretch out for quite a distance, and I am trying to stay within a mile or so of the Seine. Opinions on this? Thanks!

Romelle Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Arh, I deserved an RTFM response, didn't I? Thanks for being polite :-)I am reluctant to include zone 10 (St. Germain) as it looks to stretch out for quite a distance, and I am trying to stay within a mile or so of the Seine. Opinions on this? Thanks!Well, I had to look up the acronym, but laughed when I read it. I can't say that was the thought that crossed my mind when I answered you. The basic function of this site just is a little different than a lot of others. Think library, rather than a pool of people on at the moment. Somebody will post the bidding results of their dream trip (a "book"), and then maybe not be back on until the next big trip. So an open fishing request isn't as likely to get an answer as on a site where lots of people are on regularly. Your request might have nudged someone into reporting an as-yet-unreported bid though. And that does help the contents here. Regarding the idea of staying a mile or two of the Seine - YMMV. I'm a member, not a moderator, but my experience in the larger cities has been that the European excellent public transportation means another mile or so is only another few minutes on a metro. As long as I stay within the network, any location works pretty much like any other. With a tighter budget, the last time I visited Paris I bid all the zones. Ended up way out in La Defense. But it worked quite nicely. Almost all the places I wanted to visit involved a metro ride, from La Defense it was just a slightly longer ride. And I hope you have some "books" to add to this library. Others will appreciate your contribution.Romelle
