danielatla Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 This is related to my another post in Vegas thread, After the Vegas trip, I am going to NYC for another 4 days 3 nights and we need 2 rooms. (it is a family travel event and it is my parents' first NYC trip)I have been bidding on Time square area and Mid-town West hotel ranging from 3 stars to 4 stars for almost 3 weeks and have been failing till nowI started with 100 per night for 3 star and 125 per night for 4 star. Unlike the advertised winning bids on priceline.com, I didn’t get any deal close to it at all. Then I raised my bid to 150, 160, 170,and then last night 180. But still failed and I am so frustrated right now. Can anyone again give me some ideas on what price I should expect for 4 star and 3 star hotels in NYC time square and mid-town west area? My original budget is 1000.00 for 3 nights at a 3.5 star hotel, but it seems is a tall order now. I think I can go up to 1200.00 or so as my maximum budget.I need you guys’ help on this bid too. Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Currently i don't think there is too much difference in price between a 3*-4* property... at the moment you're likely looking at ~$185-$215/nite if you're willing to expand your zones... probably closer to $225+ if only bidding TS and MTW.The $1200 budget you mention, is that 'all-in' or a $200 bid price? Are you willing to include other nearby midtown zones (MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB are the most frequently bid at the 4* level... some caveats need to be noted if you want to bid 3.5* or below)If you're willing to bid up to $200 at this point in time, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR did you want to try for the least expensive 3.5* (or 3 star??) property? (in other words, did you want to first try for a 4* up to your limit, if rejected try for 3.5* up to your limit, if rejected try for a 3* up to your limit... or start at one of the lower star ratings?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.PS- please read your messages Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
danielatla Posted March 10, 2012 Author Report Posted March 10, 2012 Hi, thank you for your response again. Please allow me to answer your questions separately so that you can understand better.Regarding the 1200 or 200 per night price, it is my bid price. Including taxes, not exceeding 1400 is my bottom line. (3 nights, 2 rooms)Since it is my parent
thereuare Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 The MTE zone only becomes an 'issue' when bidding 3.5* or less... all the 'known' 4* hotels in the zone are generally considered centrally located near subway stations. However, it's ultimately you're decision if you want to include this zone in your 4* bidding or not (i would NOT include it in any 3.5* bidding you may do)Is your next move to try for a 4* up to $215 OR to try for a 3.5* up to $200? If you first want to exhaust your 4* bidding up to $215, i would re-try as follows:At the 4* level in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* TS and (and MTE if you choose to include this in your bidding)...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and MTW (and MTE if you choose to include this in your bidding and included previously above)...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected post back and we'll revise to try for a 3.5* property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. danielatla Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 Thank you so much for your advice, thereuare. It was a bit confusing for me at the first place about re-bidding theory. I went over all the posts and finally got a hang of it. It is also a bit challenging to figure out the 7 rebid zones. Luckily I also figured that out. However, my luck was not good enough though. I tried all the strategies you provided and stuck all the way to my highest bid 215. I still don't win it. So I think I have to go try the 3.5* now. Could you please help me develop another plan for the 3.5* one bidding?Thank you so much...
thereuare Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Did you include MTE in your 4* bidding? At the 3.5* level did you only want to bid MTW and TS, or if something like the MSG-Chelsea zone acceptable as well? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please confirm your zones and we'll advise accordingly.PS- complete understand if you don't want to bid any higher than $215, but i don't think a 4* hotel in you're preferred zones would take too much more than this, perhaps you may only be $10-$15 away. danielatla Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 Thank you again, thereuare. No, I didn't include MTE in my previous bidding. I think I may want to add it if my 3.5* and 3* bidding fails and I prefer to stay in TS and MTW area for this bidding as well for now. About this future bidding, can you suspect what the price range would be for TS and MTW zones? since you mentioned 215 might not be too far away from a successfully bid on 4* TS and MTW and if this is the case, that means 225 or 230 on 4* vs. $$$ on 3 or 3.5 * to me..So I hope to have the estimate on 3 and 3.5* before I go up to 225 or so. I understand it is just an estimate and it might not be the case. I just need some advices from experienced people like you.I will appreciate you if you can help me come up with a bidding plan too. :))Thank you:)
danielatla Posted March 12, 2012 Author Report Posted March 12, 2012 Some quick update.I got my hotel deal at 190 on MTW area for a 3* hotel, Ameritania Hotel.I will give me details when I get home tonight...Thank you so much.
thereuare Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Hope you're pleased with the outcome and the deal you ultimately received. At least it's within your budget and within one of your preferred zones.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping us add this property to the Priceline Hotel List. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
