lindabobhat Posted July 6, 2005 Report Posted July 6, 2005 Ok - I'm ready to try Priceline for a change. We have a back-up reservation at the Hyatt Deerfield (I think for $80.10 a night for the AAA bed & breakfast package.) This is a weekend getaway for my husband and I and we would like someplace with a sitting area as we plan to just seclude ourselves for the weekend and hide out in the room. After reading Ravinia's post about a recent 3* win in this zone, I think this may serve our purposes quite nicely - and not much of a risk if the Hyatt or Marriott Suites are our potential hotels. I think that Gurnee and Libertyville are my free rebids at 3* but I'm not sure where to start my bidding - looks like the Marriott is available for $99 a night on Marriott.com and the reg. Hyatt rate without AAA discount is $89. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!
thereuare Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 I would try as follows:Select 3*...Bid $38, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $41, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 3* and re-bid zone2....Bid $44, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $47.Any questions feel free to ask... let us know how it goes. lindabobhat Posted July 7, 2005 Author Report Posted July 7, 2005 Success - though I must admit I started a little lower, at $35 (I figured that with the stay a few weeks away, I could get away with being a little more frugal on my first bidding attempt.) Got it for $41, which was my 3rd bid, after closing the browser and adding the 2nd free rebid zone. I was offered a counter of $15 on my first try, which I, of course, ignored. Even remembered to use the Savings Barn link :) !I got the Marriott Suites, which will make the hubby & I both happy (he can microwave popcorn now and I can get a little sun at the outdoor pool, two things that were lacking at the Hyatt. Just hope the beds are as comfy!) Saved me over $80 from the price of my back-up, details as follows:Your Offer Price: $41.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $82.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $17.59 Total Charges: $99.59 Thanks so much for your help and for making this so painless for me! This site is the best!
