Priceline Hotel: Need Advice 4 Star Hotel- Downtown Austin

I have been looking on Hotwire and Priceline for a 4 or 3 star hotel in Downtown Austin to accomodate 4 people. Priceline has a 4 Star for $177 a night, the only problem is we really want to be close to 6th Street, and it looks like one of the possible hotels in that range is the AT&T Conference Center, which we would rather not stay at. The 3 Star range also has some hotels (Doubletree, Embassy Suites) that aren't very close to downtown either. Any thoughts or recommendations on finding a hotel in those ranges closer to downtown? Regular prices for the dates we are staying (5/4/12-5/7/12) are crazy!

A few thoughts/questions:

What would be your desired max budget per night?

With PRICELINE and bidding, you have to be able to accept ANY property within the desired zone at the desired star rating. Additionally, if you bid for a lower star rating, you could be upgraded to a higher star rating and still possibly get the hotel you were looking to avoid.

Additionally, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed. While you can request two beds with the hotel, they could say no - especially if it's a very busy set of dates. With HOTWIRE, you can indicate the amount of people in the room and if you indicate four, that should ensure bedding for four. Are you seeing any HOTWIRE listings of interest when searching for these dates?
