Looking to travel for 4/5 days to NYC, have never been there before. Don't really have a preference where we stay, so long as there is adequate access to the public transit system. Will be flying into there from Chicago. Looking to keep the hotel cost down and spending more money and time enjoying the city, just don't want to stay at a terrible / unsafe place. Hope you all can provide some guidance and estimates. Thanks!

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

The NYC zones are fairly large and there is no guarantee that the hotel may be *right* by transit. What would be your desired budget per night? This does get into the busier late Spring season so rates will unfortunately be on the high side.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Also, my travel dates are very flexible, so if anyone can tell me if there is a more cost effective time to go that would be great too!

This is going to be 'high' season for NYC, but while expensive, the weather is usually quite nice... if you're looking for the most affordable time to visit the summer or winter months are usually cheapest, but summer can be hot and humid whereas winter can get be unpleasantly cold (although this year was an extremely mild winter)

Not sure if you could delay your trip 6 weeks or so, but that would likely make things somewhat less expensive. Is this a possibility? What is your target star rating and expected budget (per nite before taxes and fees)

I'd like to be there June 8/9 for a concert actually come to find out. As far as my expectations I would like to spend around 400 for the hotel. My only want in a hotel is somewhere with a 24 hour desk. I was hoping you guys could advise about how many nights I can realistically stay for that approx. amount

Thanks again all!

We don't typically see much bidding at the 2* level in NYC as we tend to discourage it... there may be some 2* hotels that meet your needs, but there may be some which do not, and with PRICELINE / HOTWIRE you can't choose which type you will get ;)

You might be able to get something as low as $100 (if you include non-midtown zones in your bidding, such as UES, UWS, and Downtown), but it could easily take up to $140-$150 too. If you let us know which zones (by PRICELINE name) you're willing to accept and your maximum bid at a given star level, we can suggest a strategy for you to follow and you can loop thru the possible dates you could make the trip.
