Priceline Hotel: 3* NYC 4/4/12 - 4/10/12

Going to NYC April 4th thru the 10th. Looking to stay around Soho, Chelsea, area if possible ( I am open to other areas though, if I can find a deal). If possible, I would like to avoid touristy areas such as ESB, Madison Square Garden, Times Square. (I stayed at Hotel Mulberry in Chinatown last year and loved it). I want 3 starts or above and looking to keep it under $150 a night if possible. This is my first time bidding on Priceline, and any help is greatly appreciated.

I doubt that your budget will be enough for a 3* hotel in either of these two zones. We will suggest a strategy for you to try for whatever you'd like, but you would increase your chances by including other zones which may be acceptable (as it gives more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid). Are these the only two zones acceptable, or is are there any other zones you're willing to include in your bidding?

Thanks for the info. I am willing to try other areas, I just preferred Chelsea or Soho, but after bidding it doesn't look as that will be possible to get the deal I want. I would be okay with staying anywhere in Manhattan (other then upper east/west side) if I can find for $150 or below.

Yes, I tried bidding a few times for 3* in SoHo - Tribeca and Chelsea Area and have bid up to $140. I also bid $125 for *3 in Midtown West,Downtown - Financial District, Lower East Side, and Hell's Kitchen. I would be willing to stay in SoHo - Tribeca,Chelsea Area, Midtown West, Hell's Kitchen, Midtown East,Lower East Side, Empire State Building Area,Downtown - Financial District.

At this point is your goal the least expensive 3* or better in any of your acceptable zones, with a bidding limit of $150... or are there some zones you're willing to pay more to stay in (Soho-Tribeca, Chelsea) and want to first try these zone(s) up to your limit before trying the 'other' zones?

Also, I'm willing to try Madison Square Garden - Convention Area and Times Square. I'm looking for something central to the city and with good late night transportation. But 3* and cheapest is my main priority.

I'd highly recommend taking taxis late at nite (or the bus, although the busses don't run as frequently late at nite so usually taxi is the better option). I do advocate using the subway as the primary mode of transportation, but late at nite (after 10pm? 11pm?) i suggest taking a taxi for safety reasons... while odds favor nothing bad will happen, it's not worth taking the chance of ruining a vacation because you were trying to save $10.
