KellJ Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 Please help identify a Hotwire offer:Checkin: May 4Checkout: May 62 adults, 1 roomHoboken/Jersey City/Bergen NJ2 1/2*Amenities: Suite, Smoke Free Rooms, Complimentary Breakfast, High-Speed Internet AccessReviews: Says: "We are still gathering reviews for this property."Offer is $129 per night. Can't see any "suites" on the regular, named-hotel Hotwire page.Any ideas what this could be?Thanks so much. (Yes, using hte PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links ot go to their pages...)KellJ
thereuare Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 This property is likely one of the hotels along Route 1&9 and not along the waterfront, and the Waterfront area is where you want to bid if you're looking to use this as a NYC substitute... is that the purpose of this trip?As well, i think you can do much better than this... why not bid on PRICELINE in the area for a 4* hotel as i think you can land something in a better area, higher rated, for about the same price? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KellJ Posted February 25, 2012 Author Report Posted February 25, 2012 Thanks for the advice. I have been using the 4* strategy you posted recently for a Jersey City query, but haven't gone up this high ($129). Good advice to do that first! It's a joint NJ-NYC visit (for the 5Boro bike tour, with a friend who lives in JC, NJ.)Again, thanks and yes, I always use the links, whether searching or bidding!KellJ
AaronJB Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 This isn't a particularly busy/expensive time in NYC - there's a 3.5* in Midtown East on HOTWIRE for $108 - but hopefully you'll be successful in Jersey City at the 4* level for a reasonable rate. How far have you gone up so far?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
KellJ Posted March 2, 2012 Author Report Posted March 2, 2012 Hello. I've been using bid advice you gave to someone else for 4* in Jersey City. Failed so far going up to $120. I see that Hotels.com is offering Doubletree, they rate it 3.5* at $165 during my stay. Priceline shows 3.5* available in Jersey City, and free re-bids for 3.5* for two other zones. I can't find any reports of winning bids in Jersey City for 3.5*, so I'm just wondering what hte likely candidates are on PRICELINE for 3.5* bids, before I start bidding that level, also?I'm using the wonderful BiddingHelper.com.com tool to make my bids and do research. Thanks!KellJ
thereuare Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 No 3.5* properties have been reported to the board in this zone, and knowing the area fairly well, i'm not sure there are any. HOWEVER, i would not bid the 3.5* zone expecting to be upgraded to the 4* level, i could be wrong (just ask my wife ;) ), and you should only bid 3.5* if you're willing to accept a 'new' hotel at this star rating. You might consider such a risk if you were out of re-bid zones and only a day before your check-in, but with 2 months to go, i wouldn't take any unnecessary risks bidding 3.5* with an expectation of landing a 4* property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. KellJ Posted March 3, 2012 Author Report Posted March 3, 2012 Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not expecting or hoping to be upgraded to 4*; I'm hoping for a clean room that I'll be using only to sleep in, that doesn't cost $300 for two nights! :D If it's a Doubletree, that's fine with me. Just don't want to get something nasty, smelly --- you know what I mean.... ;) I'm bidding for the weekend of the 5 Boro Bike Tour, so I don't want to wait too long....seems like people have discovered Jersey City is almost NYC......Any more thoughts on this? Thanks again.
AaronJB Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 On the bike ride website, I'm seeing "Starting just north of Battery Park..." The Club Quarters Wall Street is $139 for these dates regular rate, which would not be terribly far from this location. Would bidding for downtown be of interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
KellJ Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 A good suggestion --- we are coming in to EWK, and have a friend who lives in JC and were thinking of staying there (brunch Saturday in Hoboken...etc) but this is a good idea to consider if JC doesn't pan out soon.... Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Why not stay in Manhattan so you have easier access to your hotel before and after the tour... and simply meet your friend in Jersey City (or Hoboken) on Saturday morning for brunch? When i younger i did the 5 Boro Bike Tour quite a few times (it's a great event) but my advice would be to get there early on start date to be near the front of the pack, otherwise the first mile or two is more like the Five Borough Bike Walk (or once you have your badge/credentials) bypass the starting line and catch up with the rest of the group 'en route'.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KellJ Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 They must have heard you. They are assigning starting times now, with a staggered start to avoid the Bike Walk at the beginning. You do make compelling argument for staying in DT NYC....
thereuare Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 It has to be about 15 years since i did the 5 Boro Bike Tour (first time was when in High School).Since you'll be in the area, also note that Hoboken has scheduled their 'Arts and Music Festival' for Sunday May 6th, so something to do after the event if you're interested (or plan to spend an extra day in the area)Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help along the way. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. KellJ Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 Hello. I have a thread going in Jersey City for the same weekend, the 5 Boro. Would like assistance for bidding on a DT (Wall St, etc) location for this weekend. \Looks like Club Quarters 3.5* is still $139 on Hotwire (name hidden).....There are 9 rooms left. Am I likely to get a better price than that by bidding or should I grab it now? Thanks.KellJ
thereuare Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, but you get less control over the hotel you may receive (no ability to take a guess before your purchase, not knowing the amenities the hotel may have, etc). If you want to bid for any 3.5* hotel in Downtown-Financial District, you can try as follows:At the 3.5* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* Downtown-Financial...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135If the above is rejected you can then take the HOTWIRE offer? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KellJ Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 Thanks to bidding strategy, started at $105 for this desirable 3.5*in DT, and was accepted on the first re-bid for $110/night for two nights. Used the BiddingHelper.com tool, which is great! Was showing on HOTWIRE unlisted as $139, and HOTWIRE named as $165.Very happy with this win! Thanks for the help. (Winning strategy was given to me on a New Jersey thread I had opened, when it was suggested I try DT NYC instead....) You guys are THE BEST! :D KellJ
AaronJB Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Congratulations on your success! :)Definitely a nice result for this Club Quarters property, and glad it will work out well for your travel plans.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
KellJ Posted May 8, 2012 Author Report Posted May 8, 2012 We just returned and the Club Quarters Wall Street (William St near Wall) was a perfect location and a wonderful property. We were able to store our two bikes in the room, which tells you they are very accommodating hotel, but also gives you an indication of the astonishing size of hte room for NYC. I believe the CQ Wall Street is quite different than the CQ at WTC, where the rooms are apparently very small. This location has a 2/3 subway line at the corner, walking distance to anything DT, like South Street, Battery City and Battery Park, WTC, etc.Just all around wonderful hotel for our trip. Thanks to Better Bidding staff for the advice and help.KellJ
AaronJB Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Thank you for the follow-up review! :)Glad to hear that the CQ worked out so well for your stay.
