evermdog Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Hello all,My family will be traveling to CA for a conference in mid-June. The conference is at the Hilton Costa Mesa, and I'd like to try Priceline or Hotwire, since the potential savings for a week's stay is huge. The conference rate is not very good ($139). Does anyone have any advice on maximizing my chance of winning this hotel in particular?Thanks!-Ellie
AaronJB Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please provide the exact date/s of travel. There is no way to bid for a specific property when using PRICELINE or increase the odds of a particular property. With HOTWIRE, one can make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing for your dates, but the hotel in question may not be among the possibilities showing for your particular dates.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
evermdog Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 Thank you! We are looking at June 10-17.
thereuare Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 How many roms/adults/children are you searching for?Is the Hilton the hotel you want OR could you stay 'close' and drive to the conference each day? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. evermdog Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 1 room, 2 adults, 2 children. We'd prefer to stay at the Hilton. Any close would do too, for the right price. My only concern is it seems like a lot of people have been getting the Hyatt, which doesn't look super close to the Hilton.Thank you!
Romelle Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 With both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE, you have to be willing to accept a hotel anywhere within the boundaries of their maps. It does seem sometimes a specific hotel will have a streak as the win. However, I've read of people bidding a second time within minutes of the first successful bid and receiving an entirely different hotel. As AaronJB said, there is no way to bid for a specific property, or even increase the odds of getting a specific property. Romelle
thereuare Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 1 room, 2 adults, 2 children.PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. On the other hand HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)... plus you can take a guess as to the hotel you're seeing (and therefore guess if it's close enough to the Hilton for your needs)If you search HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children does anything appear in the zone within your budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. evermdog Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 Thank you! Our kids are little- toddler and infant, so we could share a bed or get a crib too. There's a 3.5 Hotwire one that looks promising, but it's still about $90. We might just go with the conference hotel, since I think our package rate includes some of the other fees. I'd really like to try Priceline, but I hate being locked in if it doesn't work out! Thus is the trade-off, I see :)
