Edemp Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Going to Spend two nights n NYC May 15 and 16. Our teenage son(14) will be with us. I have always used Priceline and had wonderful success. However, understanding how small the rooms are in NYC and no with no certainty we can bid on two rooms and get connecting rooms or get a rollaway. We feel we need to use Hotwire (triple occupancy option) or book directly. I have been seeing rates of around 250 a night for three star hotels. Whether we book thru tip advisor or hotwire. Does this sound right? Any thoughts on how to get a nice hotel room at a decent price for three people. Would like to be in cemtral park, times square or Midtown east.
AaronJB Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed, and that's particularly true in NYC. You can request two beds, but the hotel could say no or charge more for two beds. There would be a significant risk that you would not be able to get a room with two beds. You can search for the amount of people in the party on HOTWIRE, and ensure some form of bedding (2 beds or 1 + rollaway or other combination) for the entire party. However, searching for more than 2 can result in more expensive (and less) options. If you search on HOTWIRE for 2 adults/1 child, are there any listings of interest showing?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Have you and/or your family been to NYC before?HOTWIRE does have what i'm guessing to be the Sheraton Suites in Weehawken for $146/nite. It's in NJ but easily commutable via bus, and while you do lose the feel and buzz of NYC, at nearly half the price it might be a viable option.Thoughts? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Edemp Posted March 6, 2012 Author Report Posted March 6, 2012 I appreciate your suggestion. However, it being my husbands first trip to NYC as well as the last leg of a European trip. We would like to be in the cirty for convience and ease. So i guess we will need to be realistic about what we will have to pay. And pay more than we first thought.
thereuare Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 If you search HOTWIRE for your dates and 2adults/1child does anything appear that is within your desired star rating and zone, and is reasonably priced within your new rate expectations? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
