Looking to stay in a 4* in Coral Gables/Coconut Grove Zone for 4 nights - April 15-19. Hoping not to have to pay more than $125 per night for a 4* but don't know how realistic that is! Any help would be appreciated with a bidding strategy to try and secure something.

Will use PRICELINE links on this site for searches and reservations!

Thanks

I see what appears to be a possible match for the Mayfair on HOTWIRE for $125 for these dates, so a 4* is available at that price point. Given that though, you should most likely be able to score a 4* in the Coral Gables zone on PRICELINE below at that point - I'd say $85 would be a fine starting point, and moving higher by $5's using re-bidding. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Many thanks for the prompt reply. if it was you would you start bidding now or leave it for a while?

A final unrelated point - this will be my first time in Miami other than passing through the airport - I've read reports that a car is essential in Miami and wonder whether anyone has any thoughts on that as I'd prefer not to drive. Basically we want to see the "sights" but don't want to spend time sitting on the beach. We might want to go to the basketball game on 18 April as well!

Apologies if this last bit should be posted in another thread.

Assuming this is the Mayfair, it's currently on sale for $171/nite (and this rate appears to be fully refundable, but confirm the details during the check-out process), so you'll need to think if this savings is worth locking this price now. For additional information see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

If you don't rent a car how would you plan on getting around to 'seeing the sites'? Do you have an idea of what things you would like to do in the area and how closer are these to each other (and how close to the Coral Gables zone you're bidding)?

Thanks for the info on the Mayfair. We'll give that some thought but in any event we will organise a fully refundable booking just in case we don't get anything on PRICELINE.

Clearly somewhat naively we had hoped to be able to get around using public transport! We're interested in visiting Vizcaya, Little Havana/Calle Ocho and Art Deco districts, Miami Art Museum and Bayside Marketplace. Also want to visit the Beach area for a few hours - not much more. We thought of Coral Gables as we want to be near a selection of good restaurants. Am I right in thinking that we'd be better to hire a car?
