Traveller1 Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I would like to visit NYC 31MAR-3APR and stay in a 3.5 and above hotel. It will be me, my wife and two small kids (i know taking a chance on only one bed).We are arriving from train at Penn Station...would like to stay nearby so we can walk to the hotel but flexible. I'm looking to bid in the Madison Sq area..would consider Times Sq or others nearby. I tried to bid $119 last night and no joy. Plan on sightseeing in the Midtown area the whole time moreorless.Any suggestions or assistance....please.
AaronJB Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Which other zones aside from TS and MSG would be acceptable? Additionally, what would be your desired max budget per night for this stay?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Traveller1 Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 I'm not sure maybe ESB or MTW? As far as max budget don't really want to exceed $200 a night...maybe $125-50 or so if possible
thereuare Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Which zone(s) and star rating did you select when you bid $119/nite?Did you want to only bid MSG (and?? TS) up to your limit before considering adding ESB and/or MTW... OR is your goal the least expensive of any of these acceptable zones? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Traveller1 Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 I originally bid $119 for MSG only for a 3.5 level. Last night I did the same for $135 and no joy then I added TS and bid $145 no luck then selected 3 star and bid MSG, TS, and MTW at $175 and still no joy:(. Started to add ESB but decided to wait.Goal is Cheapest in one of these zones but not below a 3 star.
thereuare Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 The way you're bidding could easily result in an overbid so i'd suggest bidding a bit more systematically and/or waiting for a strategy to follow. To recap, you've already bid MSG, TS, and MTW at the 3* level up to $175, but have made no bids which included ESB?Are you ready to include ESB in your next round of bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Traveller1 Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 Yes I am but agree I went to high even though I didn't get it. Would like to keep below $150 for the goal. Thx
thereuare Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 No, it's not that you went too high, it's that you added 'live' zones instead of re-bid zones, raised your bid price while lowering your star rating, etc, etc.If you'd like help with this stay please let us know the information in our previous post and we'll take a closer look at this trip. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Traveller1 Posted March 4, 2012 Author Report Posted March 4, 2012 No, I think I was adding those zones as rebids...at least I thought I was. And yes, I want/need help please. I'm pretty much willing to stay anywhere in the midtown area (preferably close to Penn so we can just walk to our hotel). We plan to walk to TS, ESB, MTW, etc..seeing the sights. Would like to stay in a 3.5 and above..we were there at the end of Feb and stayed at the Affinia across from Penn for $99. Looks like that's not going to happen for the time of year I'm looking for this time (31MAR-03APR). My goal would be to pay no more than $150...open to suggestions. Thx!
thereuare Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Let's back track a bit:To recap, you've already bid MSG, TS, and MTW at the 3* level up to $175, but have made no bids which included ESB?Is this correct? Are you ready to include ESB in your next round of bidding????In addition to the above, are you willing to pay more for a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Traveller1 Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 Yes you are correct on the first point. I have not tried ESB yet, but can't I try the other zones again if need be?And yes, i'm willing to pay more for a 3.5 than a 3* but again I'm trying to keep it at $150 and below...I have a backup already at a 3* that I can cancel so to really make it worth my while it needs to be around that figure and below.Thx for the help.
thereuare Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Yes, you can include the zones you have already bid... are you now also ready to include the ESB zone?Where, and how much, is your back-up hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Traveller1 Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 Please just provide a strategy. Yes Iam ready to include ESB. I don't see how info on my back up is relevant...Iam trying to get something in the areas Ive mentioned above for under $150 can u help?
thereuare Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Please just provide a strategy. Yes Iam ready to include ESB.Impossible without your first letting us know if you are willing to include ESB or not, which you have only done so now.I don't see how info on my back up is relevant...Because i know this area really well, and based upon your previous rejections, success at less than $150/nite may not be a high probability bet. By knowing the hotel and rate i would be able to comment if $150 is a sensible maximum bid vs. your back-up reservation OR if perhaps your back-up hotel isn't as good (or better than) you think and if it would make sense to increase (or lower) your maximum bid given your next best option (or help find an even better back-up reservation). At the 3.5* level you have SIX re-bid zones... at the 3* level you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MSG, TS, MTW, ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...now trying for a 3* property...Select 3* MSG and TS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW and ESB...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG and ESB...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTW and TS...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG and MTW...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS and ESB...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG and TS and ESB...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG and TS and MTW...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG and TS and ESB and MTW...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
