Priceline Hotel: Bidding Help - Maui 04/19-04/25

Hi guys, I need some help here!

Desired area: Kaanapali or Wailea, no preference.

Dates: Thursday, April 19 to Wednesday April 25

Category: Resorts

Budget: Ideally $130/150 a night, but I could go up to $160.

I've been bidding the past few days up to $145, without success. Today I started at $139 for Kaanapali, and they said I could get it fo $183. I opened a new window, added Wailea, and bid $148, and once again they said I could get it for $183. So I added Kihei and bid $152, once again they asked me do rise my bid to $183.

Since I don't want to overbid, I decided to ask the Pros.

I don't know if it matters, but I've been monitoring Marriott's website, and rates for Marriot resorts have been consistently going down, but since yesterday all prices are up. For example last week any day in may in Wailea would cost $290, now it's at least $339!

Thanks a lot!

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

If the you are getting a "counter-offer" from the service (such as the $183 counter-offer in this case), then the required price is between your last failed bid and the counter-offer. I'd continue to move higher slowly - $154, $157 if $154 isn't accepted, then $160. If you are getting a counter offer though, you do at least know that the required win is somewhere between your last win and $183.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Hi guys, I've been failing badly with Priceline, so I thought I could give a try to Hotwire. The thing is I am undecided between two hotels in Maui. I am staying 6 days and don't mind changing hotels, cause they are in the same city. Can I book a hotel for 3 days, so if I like it then book it for the rest of my stay, and if don't I can book the other one? I've looked in the FAQ and couldn't find the answer, sorry if this subject has already been addressed.

PS: I've tried searching my first and last 3 days, and in both cases I find the same hotels with the same fares, so they are both available for short bookings.

Hi guys, I've seen this 3* Condo in Kaanapali for $ 135/139 (price changes all time)

It is recommended by 90% of users, and 4.0 rating in Tripadvisor. 3.2 - 5.6 mi from city center

Amenities:

Oceanfront Property

Fully-equipped Kitchen

Free Parking

Daily Housekeeping

Air-Conditioning

Washer and Dryer in Room

Pool(s)

Front Desk

Laundry Facilities (self-service)

High-Speed Internet Access

Golf Nearby

Tennis Nearby

Condo

I've searched this board and have two suspects:

ASTON at Papakea Resort, everything matches but "condo" (although the Papakea IS a Condo). Tripadvisor rating matches.

Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas, amenities listed doesn't include Air-Conditioning, Housekeeping, Front Desk or Parking, among others (but I guess most of them are standard that might not be listed anyway). Tripadvisor rating for this property is 4.5, so it doesn't match.

Do you think I could get one of this condos? Thanks, I realy appreciate your help, have already visited the links again.

I'm not looking for a specific hotel, the amenities and stuff doesn't matter here. Hotwire is supposed to be "opaque", so do they allow you to purchase some days in a hotel and then when you actually see what you are getting purchase the rest of the days? If this is possible I don't see how anyone would risk booking a long stay in a bad place when you have the chance to see what you are getting at no cost.

Please keep all posts for this stay stay in the same thread.

Both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE have an 'extend your stay' feature where you can attempt to extend your trip by up to as many nites as your original purchase. HOWEVER, the option is not always offered, and even when it is, there is no assurance that you will be successful in extending your stay for the additional nite... the hotel may be sold-out for the additional nites, only have rooms offered at a higher rate (which you'll be given the option to accept/reject the higher price), etc.

If you haven't seen it there is a discussion here on SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID.
