has anyone gotten a 4 star hotel in kanapali area of maui recently and if so, what was it and for how much?

Try the white search box (not the orange) in the upper right. Enter "kaanapali", and make sure the search is on "Forums". You will see all the reported results. You also can search on "kanapali", as that picks up a few more.

There are lots of reports for the Resort level, which is approximately a 4 1/2* level, but there are reports at other star levels too.

Had narrowed it down to Sheraton or Hyatt, and based on what I read on Better Bidding, I thought it was the Sheraton and we were excited to find out it was. It is a 4 star on Kaanapali beach. The following was listed on Hotwire for this property:
