ZJamaican Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Over the course of an hour these were by bids for a 4 star hotel in Hollywood from 03/02 to 03/04:110120140160180I don't understand why I didn't win. I wasn't even offered a counter offer at any point. The highest I've seen others pay for the same area is around $170, some as low as $99, Most at around $110. Priceline was offering the Roosevelt hotel in Hollywood for $233. At $180 that's only a 22% discount. Hotwire was offering the Roosevelt for $184! This is the 3rd time I've had no luck with Priceline. Any ideas?
thereuare Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is a rate change that takes place at some of the hotels in this area from Friday to Saturday, and sometimes this can (negatively) effect the bid price needed to win a hotel. Are you willing to take the chance of having to change rooms during your stay, if so, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID a consideration? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ZJamaican Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 I actually originally intended to do Priceline NYOP. I bid up to 90 for a 3 star got rejected but got a counter offer from Priceline for $130, I obviously declined to take it.I decided to check Hotwire and saw a 3 star for 98 and I was able to figure out that it was the Holiday Inn which has significantly better reviews than the Priceline 3 star hotels according to Tripadvisor.Note to the admin. The Hotwire hotel list that you have has a slight mistake. Your list: Boutique, Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, LaundryActual list: Complementary Breakfast, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, LaundrySo simply no Boutique. I used your list and the tripadvisor review to figure out which hotel it was. I used the Hotwire referral link because I really like this site. It's a great resource!Feature Request: I would love to have the ability to search this forum for a certain star rating. As of now If I search for "3* Westwood" I get an error message telling me the phrase "3*" is too short so I can only search for Westwood.Question: For next time can I use the "Hotwire customer ratings" to help identify a hotel in advance? I looked at the named hotwire hotels but I didn't see Hotwire ratings only tripadvisor ratings.
ddj Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I found a 3* in the same area from 4/7 -4/12 for $107. The list is: Complimentary Breakfast, Pool(s), High-Speed Internet Access. I assume this is not Holiday Inn Express?
thereuare Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 ZJamaican,Congratulations no your success!Hope you're pleased with the results and this property will work well for your plans.I would love to have the ability to search this forum for a certain star rating.I hate to make promises and not keep them, but stop by next week as we should have a new feature ready, it's probably not the exact format you're thinking of (it's much better, imo) but you should be able to filter and view all the information you're seeking.Question: For next time can I use the "Hotwire customer ratings" to help identify a hotel in advance? No, as HOTWIRE is not consistent in this regard... the same hotel can fluctuate the percent recommendation amount from one search to the next, and sometimes even revert to 'we are still gather information'.Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay.PS- sorry, no screenshots posted to the board. Thanks.ddj,I found a 3* in the same area from 4/7 -4/12 for $107. The list is: Complimentary Breakfast, Pool(s), High-Speed Internet Access.
