jcaddy35 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Hi all,I'm looking to book a hotel for one night on March 17th around the Central Park South area (I can go a little farther south but would like to keep it above 30th). East/West does not make a huge deal, although I will be spending most of my night on the West Side. Do you have any bidding tips for me? If possible, I'd like to keep the total, after taxes, under $140. Thanks!Joe
thereuare Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!Your $140 all-in rate comes to about a $115 bid price, and based upon current rates and the St Patrick's Day holiday, that may be tough for a 3.5* property. If you'd like to give it a try, let us know which zones by PRICELINE name you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.NOTE: at the 3.5* if including CPS it contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (140 sq. ft.) and if including MTE it includes some hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, please keep this in mind when letting us know the zone(s) you'd like to include in your bidding. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jcaddy35 Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 I'd like to do one of the following (in this order):1. Central Park South2. Hells Kitchen3. Midtown East4. Midtown West5. Madison Square Garden6. Times SquareI could also extend it out to Empire State Building and Chelsea area. If you don't think I can get 3.5* with this scenario, I could go down to 3*, I just want to avoid the bed bugs!
thereuare Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 So to confirm...If there is a CPS hotel available for $130 and a HK hotel available for $100... you'd prefer the higher priced CPS property since it's higher up the ladder on your zone choice? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.pricline.hotwire Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
jcaddy35 Posted March 2, 2012 Author Report Posted March 2, 2012 I'd go with the cheaper price actually if you think HK has a higher deal. The money will trump the location if it's in one of those spots!
thereuare Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 I used the bid amounts and zones above only as an example, because often when we hear "this zone preference" and ask the question we did, it turns out that price does precede zone preference and ultimately the goal is the lesser priced property. So to revise:Your goal is the least expensive 3.5* property in any of the above zones? If so:At the 3.5* level in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* CPS, HK, MTE, MTW, MSG, TS, ESB, Chelsea...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected and you don't want to raise your maximum bid, we can update to try for a 3* property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. jcaddy35 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Report Posted March 3, 2012 Unfortunately that did not pan out...I'm guessing the price is a little too low for that weekend. I'll try to do the same bidding strategy and use 3* instead of 3.5. Do you think this is the best way to approach the 3* hotels too?
thereuare Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I'll try to do the same bidding strategy and use 3* instead of 3.5.You can't because when bidding 3* in NYC you only have ONE re-bid zones. jcaddy35 Posted March 6, 2012 Author Report Posted March 6, 2012 Still a no go. Do you think i should bid higher? Or am I cutting it too close to the date I'm staying there?
AaronJB Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 Based upon the HOTWIRE rates I'm seeing, I think this is unfortunately too low for this particular date. I think you're possibly looking at as much as a $125-140 bid price for a 3* for this date.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jcaddy35 Posted March 10, 2012 Author Report Posted March 10, 2012 So after trying a few times with a couple higher rates, I ended up using HOTWIRE to book a hotel. Don't worry, I used the link on your site since you've been trying to help this whole time. Thanks guys!
AaronJB Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Congrats on your success! :)Can you confirm the hotel you won and the details of the win (zone, star rating, amenities, price per night)? Thank you. Thanks for using the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchases and searches.
