Priceline Hotel: 3.5* Baltimore (Inner Harbor - Downtown) Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel

Trying to find a hotel for the preakness and figure either of the two 3* hotels in the University Area would work as they are close to the racetrack. Looks like there's no availability at the Raddison, but there is at the Doubletree. Any strategy to bid this, as it's the only zone I can stay in? Any idea on what price I might need to go up to?

Posted

Well, the zones don't have the same boundaries, but on HOTWIRE all they had for your dates was a 1* University Center at $105. That would certainly suggest a higher star level on PRICELINE would be a whole lot more. You've got time on your side. Maybe start at 1/2 the Doubletree rate and work up?

The only issue is that I have 4 people staying in the room, which means I need one that can accomodate that - the doubletree has a room with 2 queen bed for $220, which is the same rate as the room with 1 king bed. If I get something by bidding on PRICELINE, will it default to the 1 king bed room, or can I select the 2 beds?

All Priceline commits to is bed space for two people. A double bed or a couple twins, on up. If you bid and receive the Doubletree, you can make a request. But there are no guarantees, and no bed type selection.

With Hotwire, you can initially select for four people, but even that can be just a regular bed and a sofa bed.

PS - if you do decide to book directly, there is a Doubletree link on the Support Page.

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to take then HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)

I wouldn't mind booking 2 rooms if I can get it at the retail price of 1 ($220/night), but I'm not sure how likely that is. I guess it doesn't hurt to try booking 2 at $110/night each and if I don't get it, then I just pay for the 4 person room directly with Hilton for $220/night. My issue with HOTWIRE is that I'm not sure if anything will come up for sale, and I'm thinking I should act fairly soon because it's a big event that weekend and I'm sure things will sell out (Ritz is already sold out). Advice?

If you search on HOTWIRE for these dates with the amount of people in your party, are there any listings showing?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

This would seem to be your best bet... although i'd say the odds of success on PRICELINE / HOTWIRE are fairly low given the high room rates, low availability, and the race in town.

Good luck and let us know what you ultimately decide to do.

So I tried bidding 3* University Center - started at $95 and went up to $125 using 3 free re-bid zones. Nothing accepted and I'm out of re-bids. Is there a way to reset it so I can try bidding higher?

Posted

Nope, no way to "reset" it. The free re-bid zones are the best dodge available, and you've already used those. 24 hours from the last thing you did today. Sorry.

How about a bidding strategy for Inner Harbor - Downtown? Might just do that instead and take public transportation to the race.

Would like a 4*, but would settle for a 3.5*. Need 2 rooms now because we will now have 5 people attending (1 can sleep on the floor in one of the rooms).

Any advice? Would need to keep it under $120 a night per room if possible.

When bidding 3.5* in this area you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3.5* Inner Harbor-Downtown...

Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $53, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $65

Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the DT-Inner Harbor zone for $68/nite and you can purchase that one.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.

Thanks. What if I want to try for a 4* first though, up to $120/night? Any chance? The $68 3.5* on Hotwire looks to be the Sheraton Inner Harbor, which I'm seeing horrible reviews for. But I guess I'll have to settle if nothing else comes up.

When bidding the 4* level you have EIGHT re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Downtown-Inner Harbor...

Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120

Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected you can then close the browser and re-try using the 3.5* previously posted.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Do you remember which hotel? When I'm researching a trip, I often go back to same dates a year earlier. Even your year-old info could be helpful to somebody if posted.
