Priceline Hotel: Celebrating my daughter's Sweet 16 in NYC!

Greetings from Dallas,

My daughter and I are celebrating her Sweet 16 in the Big Apple. It will be our first time, so we are super excited. We are not particularly familiar with the areas, but know that we want to be close to as much as possible. Please afford us some tips on bidding and selecting a good neighborhood that is economical and safe. Our budget is between $100-125 a night. Lower is best, a bit higher is possible. I have never blind bid before, and I gotta admit I am a bit nervous. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Would your budget be $100-125 w/taxes included or $100-125 + taxes/fees?

Looking at rates, $125 may be not be quite enough (although worth trying) for Midtown (Times Square, Midtown East, Midtown West) - if successful, I would guess that $125 would more likely be successful at the 3* level. Downtown/Soho is towards the bottom of Manhattan and would require using transit to get to the more central Midtown sights, but would be moderately cheaper and coming in within your desired budget should not be a problem.

Is your budget flexible at all? I think $125 may be a bit of a stretch, although you may succeed with something Downtown at that price (which is certainly do-able, but not the ideal location for a first time visitor)... whereas if you can stretch your budget to $150 (before taxes and fees) you may be able to get something a bit more centrally located.

What star rating are you seeking? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

I'm assuming you're finding rates thru conventional booking channels substantially more than $125/nite?
