Hello,

This is my first time posting here. I've been reading the forums and getting a better idea of how this works, but was hoping for some help.

I'm heading to NYC with a girlfriend from March 11 - 14. I'd like to stay in MTE, MTW, CPS or Soho areas in a 3.5 or 4 star hotel. I was hoping to spend max $150 (incl. taxes) - I hope this is possible.

Would you recommend using Priceline or Hotwire?

When should I start bidding - does it get cheaper the closer to my dates?

Thanks for your help.

Done! :)

Just looking at the list of hotels in Soho. It seems like there are a few 3 star ones - what is the quality like? Is there much of a price difference between the 3, 3.5 and 4 star hotels?

You will most likely be limited by your budget. A $150 all-in equates to about a $125 bid price, and this is on the low end of what would likely be an accepted bid price... likely not enough for a 4*, possibly enough for a 3.5*, likely enough for a 3*.

I would recommend bidding for a 4* hotel up to your limit, if that is rejected re-try for a 3.5* up to your limit, if that is rejected then try for a 3* up to your limit (assuming you find a 3* hotel acceptable for this trip).

HOWEVER, note that when you start to bid 3.5* and under in the MTE zone some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, and in the CPS is the Hudson Hotel, which while centrally located has notoriously small rooms. If you're rejected at 4* you'll need to consider if you want to include either/both of these zones in your subsequent bidding.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
