Priceline Hotel: No luck with Chicago

Hello!

First time writing in the forum, although I've read it so many times (and used the links!).

I've been bidding on a hotel in several areas, from Downtown to Lincoln Park, both in 4 stars and 3,5. I've gone up to 76 USD, but I haven't won any hotel. I've been checking other people's prices on wins for Chicago hotels, and some people seem to have won amazing hotels for around 60-70 USD... Is there anything going on in Chicago that weekend? Should I just continue bidding?

I've found what seems to be hotel71 on Lastminutetravel for 83 USD per night (albeit "on request").

What do you think?

Thanks!

June.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

The problem in this case would be the Housewares convention, which is on from 3/10-13 and one of the bigger conventions during the year.

What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your quick answer. Since i found the Hotel71 at 83 plus tax, I guess I'd be Ok with paying up to that price for a 4 star hotel. But I may be daydreaming?

Exactly which zones, by PRICELINE name, have you included in your bidding?

...83 USD per night (albeit "on request")... I guess I'd be Ok with paying up to that price for a 4 star hotel.

Have you inquired as to whether this hotel is available to be booked? If 'on request' and they're not able to get any additional inventory, using this as the basis for your maximum bid is a flawed strategy.

As per above, if the hotel isn't bookable, it may not be a valid price to use for your maximum bid. I think you can get a 3.5*/4* hotel for ~$100, which is why i think you should first see if the Hotel 71 is indeed bookable at that rate, so you can determine if $83 is an appropriate amount to use as a maximum bid.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

hi june , yes the flower show at Navy pier starts sunday and I did the same search you did all last week finally topping 105 for 4star 3/8-3/12 without success. I went back to hot-wire and their best savings was 4star$ 89 (lowered from earlier in the week fro 105.) I took it and it is the Palmer house (where someone else got 3 of the nights there for 85 on price line!) the 3/8-if you want one night there was a winning bid on price line in the 60s 4 star and another that was a thursday friday combo at a reasonable rate. However I did not want to stay at multiple hotels. Hope this feedback helps you. Brad
