oratihsus99 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Hello,I am a newbie here needing help to bid on Priceline. There will be 3 adults plus 1 child travelling to Vegas checking in 4/19 and out 4/22. I realize that Friday and Saturday nights will be expensive. I checked Hotwire and the 5* hotels available for those dates are Trump and Aria (I think). So does that mean when I bid on Priceline, those will be the only ones available in the 5* category as well? We'd love to stay at Vdara but Aria is ok, I guess. Also, if Hotwire shows $153 for Aria (strip south), how much lower should I bid?Thank you.
AaronJB Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)A couple of notes:The two services are different; you may get the same hotel on PRICELINE bidding that is showing on HOTWIRE, but that is definitely not a guarantee.PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy; you can request two beds with the hotel but they can say no or possibly charge an upgrade fee, and that has happened at some of the properties in Vegas. With HOTWIRE, you can indicate the amount of people in the room, which will ensure bedding (1 + sofabed or 2 beds) for the party. Given that, do you still want to take the risk with PRICELINE?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
oratihsus99 Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Yes, I think we're going to take that risk And how low should I start the bid?
oratihsus99 Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Hello,I searched for 4* and 5* hotels for the above dates and I was able to ID the 5* hotel but for the 4*, I have no clue. Please help. The descriptions are:Need help to ID 4* Strip South area hotel 4/19 - 4/22 (3 nights)This hotel charges a resort fee. This hotel typically charges all guests a resort fee regardless of how the room is booked. The hotel collects this fee of about US$ 20 per room per night directly from you, so it won't show in your Hotwire® total. Amenities:Resort, Casino, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Golf NearbyRecommended:In 85% of Hotwire customer reviews. Thank you.
thereuare Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. For PRICELINE:Are you bidding Strip North and Strip South... or only the Strip South zone?Is Trump an acceptable property and you're willing to bid Strip North Condo as well, or are you looking to avoid this property/zone?How high are you willing to bid for this stay... will you go as high as the $153/nite rate offered on HOTWIRE?For HOTWIRE:The 4* above is a match for the Tropicana so that would be my best guess here. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and/or how it goes and we'll take it from there. oratihsus99 Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 Hi,It will be our first time in Vegas so we're looking to stay as closed to center as possible and I heard that Trump is not exactly on the strip although it's a very nice hotel. So if we can avoid it, it'd be great. I don't think I want to pay as high as the price listed on Hotwire. Looking to spend top $100-$120/night.About the Tropicana, this is a stupid question but Hotwire shows $93/night but Hotels.com shows $86/night. I thought Hotwire is always cheaper??? Am I missing something here.Thank you.
thereuare Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 There are some instances where HOTWIRE is not cheaper than a 'retail' hotel purchase (and in these instances HOTWIRE does offer a Best Rate Guarantee), however, i'm showing the Tropicana at $123/nite for your dates. If you want to try bidding on a 5* hotel with a $120 maximum bid, you can try as follows:At the 5* level in Las Vegas you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Strip North and Strip South (NOTE: not Strip North Condo)...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. oratihsus99 Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 Was unsucessful at $120 for 3 nights so I decided to split the bid 4/19 and 4/20-22.Sucessfully got Aria for $95 on 4/19 Does anybody know how Aria hotel is? Will have to try 4/20-22 later and see...might have to downgrade to 4* or do you think I can call the hotel and extend the stay at Aria for $120/night?
AaronJB Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)Definitely a nice deal for this property, which does get good reviews. While it's very highly unlikely that the hotel will allow you to extend the rate through them, did PRICELINE allow you to add one night via the "add a night" feature? This thread will be for the 4/19 stay - please start a new thread for the additional nights and we would be happy to help.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
oratihsus99 Posted March 1, 2012 Author Report Posted March 1, 2012 yes, priceline did give me an option for add a night...and I am allowed to add Fri 4/20 for $158...so average, it'll be around $126/night, which is closed to what we had intitially wanted to spend. However, I didn't take it yet because I am not sure if they will allow me to add Sat 4/21 as well. And if so, I'm not sure if the price would be way more than we can afford.
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 You can add as many nights as the original reservation. I'm seeing what appears to be the Aria for $175 when searching for 4/20-22 for both nights together on HOTWIRE, so my guess is that if you bid for both nights together, you could hopefully get the Aria (or another 5* in this zone) for $140-155 +/- a couple of dollars. I'd start at $130 and work higher by $5's. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
oratihsus99 Posted March 2, 2012 Author Report Posted March 2, 2012 So Priceline only allows to add one night at a time? I just want to confirm that because I only saw option to add Fri 4/20 and not Sat 4/21 that's why I was a bit hesitant.I can try to bid again and see what will happen.Thank you again.
AaronJB Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 You can only add as many nights as the original reservation, so you can only add one night to this reservation. Given the rates when searching for both dates (4/20-22), I'd first try bidding for both nights together and see if you could get a rate for both nights together in the $140-155 range.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
orngbld Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Going to be bidding on Priceline for Vegas and noticed the re-bid instructions/help above. The moderator mentioned that there are 11 re-bid zones for Las Vegas. I read the instructions (with picture representations!) of re-bidding process and feel I understand it.We want only 5 Star; so if I start with 5 Star North and 5 Star South (non condo), are the re-bid zones basically the other locales in great LV area with 5 star selected? I'm assuming Henderson, Boulder, Summerlin don't have 5 Star hotels....?
thereuare Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 orngbld,Welcome to BetterBidding! You don't want to 'guess' which zones have 5* hotels and which don't, since if you guess wrong you can easily end up in a zone you didn't intend.
