redroses Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 HiI'm looking for 4 nights (weekdays), mid April. Budget: around/less than $100Would like a hotel that's close to the subway, in a safe area; suburbs are ok if transportation to NYC is quick (<20 minutes) and easy and the location is safe. There are so many zones that I have no idea where to start. Help would be much appreciated!

redroses Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 April 16-20 pleaseAnd for the price, I'd of course prefer it as low as possible. Maybe even start at $80 (before the fees). Not sure if this is possible during this season, but from what I've seen of last year's, seems doable? And min at 3* for now, as I've read some of your posts that quality of the hotel below that is really unpredictable. It's negotiable if there's nothing suitable of course. Thanks a lot!
thereuare Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Under $80 does not seem likely for this time of year, although you might be successful in one of the suburbs outside the city on the New York side, however, then proximity/safety/'niceness' of neighborhood all become a factor, so it comes down to convenience vs. budget.HOTWIRE has an outlier (in the sense that it is priced somewhat less than equivalent hotels) 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $112/nite with Restaurnat, Fitness, Internet, Business. While this description matches multiple properties, my guess is that it is most likely the Roosevelt (currently 3.5* rated on PRICELINE). While this is far from my favorite hotel in the city, and it does have some issues, it is VERY well located and, imo, acceptable at this price. My advice would be to try to win a 3.5* (or 3*) hotel on PRICELINE in Manhattan, and if rejected, take the HOTWIRE offer.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. redroses Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 I've seen that on Hotwire - thanks for confirming which hotel it is. How much fee does hotwire charge on top of the price?I would like to try for Manhattan on Priceline, and see where that takes me. Could you advice how to go about it? Roughly 100 or so is acceptable.
thereuare Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Which zone(s) are you willing to accept and what is your desired star rating and maximum bid (exact bid amount, not 'about', as we need to know where to stop so we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher than you're willing to pay)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
