Hotwire Hotel: 3* Kansas City (Airport MCI - Platte City) Best Western Plus Kansas City Airport-KCI East

Seeing the recent win for Hyatt Place at $54, I figured that $59 with the same amenities would probably be the Hyatt Place. WRONG! -- Guess this one is a new one for the Hotwire Missouri list:

I know there's no whining here, but when Hotwire lists the regular rate of $115 above the secret deal of $59, it's such a LIE. The rack rate for that hotel is never over $109/night. In fact, I found that my stay would be cheaper if booked at Best Western's web site.

I had tried Priceline 3* Kansas City Airport South up to $55 with no luck. I know I probably could have gotten the Hilton but the last time I won it on Priceline ($40 a couple years ago) I found it dated and more recent reviews have confirmed not much has changed there.

I suppose this Best Western will at least be newer than the Hilton, but I will never use Hotwire again.

Sorry to hear you're disappointed with the results, but a few points/comments which may help your future opaque purchases:

1) There are two Best Western properties in this area, can you please add a reply to this thread clarifying which one you received (Prairie View Rd or the Amabassador Dr. location??)

2) these amenities don't exactly match those previously reported to be associated with the Hyatt Place, so that would have been a clue that perhaps this was a different property than you were expecting

3) the rate crossed out and shown by HOTWIRE is not the retail rate for the specific hotel offered, but rather the average rate of similarly rated hotels in the zone

4) HOTWIRE does offer a Best Rate Guarantee (based upon room rate only)... so if the rate before taxes/fees is cheaper at the Best Western website you should contact HOTWIRE and inquire about a refund of the difference

Sorry, it's the Best Western Plus at 11130 Ambassador Dr. Based on the address, I think it may have been the Holiday Inn Express at one time but Google Maps shows it as "Airport Inn and Suites".

I did an on-line request for price adjustment via the Hotwire form and they sent me an e-mail saying that if I wanted a price adjustment, I should fill out the on-line request for price adjustment. So I called and once I got through, it didn't take long and I got my credit for $1.05!
