riceman Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 Hey guys,Great forum :)I'm looking to travel to Chicago during the dates I have a noted above (3/17/2012 - 3/19/2012) and staying at a 4* hotel. Any bidding strategies (start bid, rebid zones)? Thanks!Raymond
thereuare Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 So we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher thank you're willing to pay, let us know your maximum bid (per nite before taxes and fees) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. riceman Posted February 25, 2012 Author Report Posted February 25, 2012 Hello,I saw in another thread someone was able to get a NMA 4* hotel (Whitehall) for around $75 a night for similar days. So far I have bid up to $95 for a 4* in NMA (started at 60). I have also tried to go for a 3.5* hotel in NMA and bid up to $91 to no avail. :(I guess the max price i'm willing to pay is something around $105... I'm also thinking about the Millennium Park/Loop area now that I feel like i'm running out of options, but I want to be near shopping in NMA..Any advice? Thanks in advance,Raymond
AaronJB Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 There's a mild convention going on at the Hyatt - nothing that should be causing seriously higher rates. There may also be an event that I'm not seeing, although St Patrick's Day may cause some mild hotel traffic for people staying downtown. The Millennium Park-Loop-Grant Park area has 4* properties concentrated at the top, center and bottom of the zone. If you are able to get a hotel at or near the top of the zone (such as the Hyatt), then it's a very easy stroll to NMA shopping. If you get a hotel towards the bottom of the zone (Blackstone Renaissance or Hilton, for example) or center (Palmer), then it's either a longer walk on a nice day or the red line "L" is close by most Loop properties. There's also a fair amount of shopping along State St in the Loop, as well. If you do decide to go for the Millennium Park-Loop-Grant Park area, I'd start lower again and work up towards your max.HOTWIRE rates are on the higher side, although the Loop is somewhat more reasonable than the NMA area.
riceman Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Started at 70,75,80 and got hilton palmer for $85. fairly satisfied with it :)thanks

AaronJB Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 While not the NMA area, this will still work well - it's a long (but pleasant) walk on a nice day (hopefully the weather will be better in a few weeks than it has been in the last few days.) There's also shopping right nearby on State and a red line station on State/Monroe right by the hotel. I recommend the Pittsfield Cafe, which is not too far North, for kind of an old-fashioned breakfast spot. It's in the building (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d1025120-Reviews-Pittsfield_Cafe-Chicago_Illinois.html)
