Sam-UK Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Hey guys, awsome website!I am traveling with my girlfriend from the uk, we are going to san francisco on holiday from june 1st to the 6th, and wanted some help on landing a 4* hotel, iv have seen plenty of people landing parc 55 and the hilton in union sqaure for $95 but anything like this would be great! or maybe fishermans wharf? could anyone please help me on areas to select (touristy places) and what to start my bidding at? i am happy to go up to $120 or maybe a slight higher, if you think this is asking too much please feel free to shoot me down! Thankyou, Sam
thereuare Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! The most popular 'downtown' areas are Union Square East and Union Square West. Some also like the Financial/Embarcadero zone, and Fisherman's Wharf is the 'touristy' area (although personally i think i'd have a tough time staying 5 nites here as i prefer to be 'in with the locals' when i travel vs. very touristy areas... but it all depends upon what you enjoy and what you're looking for from this trip).I'd start with the zones above and determine which you think would work best for your plans this trip. However, i'll also note that i did give a quick look at rates and they're currently a bit high for these dates, and i suspect at the moment a 4* may run you closer to $140-$160, although you can certainly try lower rates first.Let us know regarding your zones and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Sam-UK Posted February 22, 2012 Author Report Posted February 22, 2012 Thanks for the fast reply! oh i see, well we would much more like to be 'in with the locals' than a tourist trap! do you have any tips on getting cheaper rates? would i get better rates closer to the time? thankyou!
AaronJB Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 The FAQ discusses purchase timing in greater detail, but it's also a matter of the seasonal factor - rates seen on recent wins during the late Winter are going to be lower than during the busier Summer season. There's no way to know if rates will cool a little towards your dates (although will still likely remain higher than rates seen during the Winter), but they could also go higher if traffic comes in above expectations.Would you be interested in pushing your budget for the 4* level, or would you be interested in trying for a more reasonable 3.5 or possibly 3*?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Sam-UK Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 cheers dude, great bit of info! yes i would rather drop to a 3.5 than increasing on budget as we are traveling to a couple other places in the U.S too and we arnt made of money unfortunatly! my main concern is that on some hotel reviews alot of people complain about feeling unsafe at night in certain neighbourhoods so wanted to play it safe really, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated! thankyou.
Sam-UK Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 Help with 2* union sqaure east - moscone center Hey guys, could any one help me name this hotel on hotwire, it says 4 out of 5 on trip advisor, is this the baldwin hotel? thankyou in advance! dates were for 1st to 6th of june if that helps!also do you have to pay any extra tax on top of the HOTWIRE price as iv noticed this on a few sites in the US?
thereuare Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Please keep all posts for the same trip in the same thread. Are you still seeing the USE-Moscone Center property offered on a current HOTWIRE search, as i'm not seeing this listed when searching for your dates above. If you're still seeing this, are you searching June 1-June 6 and what is the price offered? When bidding less than 4*, there are some hotels in the USW zone that can be in the 'terderloin' area (which is part of the USW zone)... i don't know of anyone reporting any 'real' problems here, but there is a bit more homelessness/panhandlers which might make some users a bit uncomfortable, so that is something to keep in mind when choosing a zone. There are others on the board more local to the area than i am that will hopefully chime in with some additional zone advice. However, based upon the current zones discussed, i think it is likely you may need to go over $120 even for a 3.5* property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
