Wife and I have never been to Ireland, going to try to do the whirlwind tour, March 8th-11th Looking for a 4* hotel to stay in for under $100 if possible, looking for advice if this is too low? after reading on other travelors blogs and posts here and online, we'd like to find a hotel within these three zones, but were def open to other travelers suggestions. We are in our late 20's, looking to sightsee during the day, nice dinner, and some drinks at night. Rather a great location then a ton of amenities, just would like a clean, safe, private room. Thanks for the help. Locations are

- Dublin City Center

- Dublin City Center North

- Dublin City Center South/Ballbridge

Thanks,

Jeff

CC/CCN $70

CC/CCN/CCS $75

Try again tommorow at $80-90. Any other advice? Thanks

Your current bidding strategy leaves you exposed to potentially overbidding in the CCN and CCS zones. A more strategic strategy would be as follows (using bid amounts which can be used on yoru next attempt):

Select 4* CC...

Bid $80, if rejected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CCN...

Bid $80, if rejected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CCS...

Bid $80, if rejected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CC and CCN...

Bid $85, if rejected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CC and CCS...

Bid $85, if rejected closer browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* CC and CCN and CCS...

Bid $90

Any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for the clarification, I was wondering if you were allowed to do each zone before starting the permutation. I will try this approach tomorrow ! Trips starts in two days! Ahh

Round 2, unsucessful but I think I am really close, and I screwed up on a counter offer attempt

ran through the order you posted:

4* CC @ $80

4* CCN @ $80

4* CCS @ $80

4* CC/CCN @ 85

4* CC/CCS @ $85

4* CC/CCS/CCN @ $90 (counter offer at $118, accidentily closed browser to re-bid at $95, they considered it a previous bid and now i'm stuck waiting 24 hours) going to try, $90,92,95 tomorrow, unless you think i should do like 90/95/100?

Booked! 5* conrad at $125, details to follow, advice to those also searching first.

Due to our travel I was not able to re-bid the next day after the counter offer at $118. When we got to London I worked until final offer at $100 up to $115 in all three zones on three consecutive days. I consistently was given counter offers at $149. I was getting a big upset and worried we were going to have to go on the economy for hotels in dublin because out travel was so soon. I started looking at other discount hotel sites to look for 4 stars not on the priceline/hotwire grid and found a few hotels right in the temple bar area, 4* at +/- $105-110 US. I almost booked them but took one last look into the search bar for Dublin and realized a lof of people were getting the Hitlon Conrad Dublin for $120-$130 over a varied set of days/weeks/months so i figured I'd take a shot at it. I bid $120 at city center and city center south, was countered at $139...imagine my suprise, $149 counter for 4*, $139 for 5*. I closed browser and re-bid at $125, there are three 5* re-bid zones in dublin and won the Conrad for Fri-Sun at $125! Thanks for all the help from everyone on this site. You have been more then helpful with my entire european vacation. In total I think we saved $1,000+ across europe and stayed in 4*+ hotels in four different cities, all booked through advice on this forum and sucess stories/strategies i\ve either read or been provided with!

Update now that we are home from the trip. We were very pleased by the Conrad. I've only stayed in one other five star hotel and it was a Conrad in Singapore which was ridiculous, 30+ story hotel, very opulent etc.. the conrad Dublin does not compare to that. It was however very nice and very accomodating. What can't be beat is the location. It is a five minute walk to the start of Grafton street, right on the green, two minutes walk to doheny and nesbitt's if you are a fan of watching rugby, and five minutes walk to tons of other good pubs and restaraunts. There is a bus stop one minute out the door, and a line of cabs 24 hours a day sitting right outside the front door. The two minutes that separates the conrad from downtown is perfect because it is located on a quiet corner that keeps all of the riffraff and drunks, foot traffic, etc.. completely away from the hotel. There are a few coffeee shops, markets, and breakfast places right outside the front door. All in all I was very pleased and for $125 to stay in a nice hotel in any city, on a weekend, when their national team is playing home rugby, I can't complain.

Last piece of advice, the hotel helped us find a bike rental place, secured overnight rate of $10 euros a night, I would highly reccomend this. Dublin is small and walkable but not worth the tourist hop on hop off bus type tickets and the metro does not service near enough to the hotel to make it really ueseful. With the bikes we were able to crisscross the entire town so easily, for drinks, dinner, sightseeing, guiness factory etc.. 100% reccomend you do this instead od trying to walk or wait and pay for buses.
