rudy1987 Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I just joined and have been following along on how to get great deals and am excited at my first time. I'm hoping to get a single room, 4 star (3.5 is equally acceptable) in Downtown Austin on the weekend of 3/30-4/01. I'm flexible but something in the $90-$100 would be ideal.Downtown is the only zone we wish to stay in since we're trying to stay as close as possible to some family members who have a room booked there already. Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding!... 4 star (3.5 is equally acceptable) in Downtown Austin on the weekend of 3/30-4/01.To confirm, did you want to first try for a 4* up to your limit, then if rejected re-try for a 3.5* property... OR is your goal the least acceptable 3.5* or better for this stay?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rudy1987 Posted February 21, 2012 Author Report Posted February 21, 2012 Thanks for the prompt response! I would say goal is the least acceptable 3.5* or better.
thereuare Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Rates look very high for these dates and i'm not sure if $100 will be enough (or even get you close). To give it a try:When bidding 3.5* in Austin you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* Downtown...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. rudy1987 Posted February 22, 2012 Author Report Posted February 22, 2012 Thanks! I'll give this a try!
rudy1987 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 Well I tried the system (which btw I absolutely love now) and went zone by zone but unfortunately was rejected thru $100. So what's next? Do I just need to up my bid? or should I wait for a day or so and do the process all over again?
thereuare Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, in the next few weeks, but as noted above, based upon current rates i think $100 would be a tough win... rates are very high, do you know of something that is happening over these dates which would drive up hotel prices? What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? (try MAPS and HOTELS.com to see what is available closer to the location you need to be, as well as easily see how much more/less it would cost to go up/down in star rating OR closer/further to your desired location)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rudy1987 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 Not sure what's going on that late in March but I know early to mid-March is SXSW music festival (really fun fwiw) which makes getting hotels almost impossible unless you want to spend tons of money. I'm not sure of anything else going on at that time though. Thanks...I'll try using that as a guide and see what I can come up with. For now, thanks again for showing me the ropes!
thereuare Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 I did give a look but couldn't find any events planned for these dates, but hotel rates/availability certainly makes me think that something it happening in the city over these dates.Where, and how much, are your other family members booked? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rudy1987 Posted February 25, 2012 Author Report Posted February 25, 2012 Looks like they're staying at the Radisson in downtown. They paid about $120/night but they also reserved it a while back. I may try going down to 3* as I'm more interested in saving a few bucks then getting a fancier hotel.
thereuare Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Even the Radisson is $200+ per nite now and that is one of the least expensive hotels in the immediate area.Even if you go down in star rating you may ultimately need to bid higher or consider a nearby zone. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us uddated on your progress or let us know if/when you're looking to raise your maximum bid, lower your star rating further, or consider other zones.Good luck.
