ItsMeUC Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Hello all!Not too familiar with the Chicago area so a little help would be greatly appreciated! :-)There will be 8 of us (2 families total) coming into Union Station on the train. We will be mostly sight-seeing (museums, etc.) and shopping. Any advice on the bidding strategy? Thanks so much!
thereuare Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 To confirm... are you looking for two rooms? If so, note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)What is your desired star rating and expected budget (per room per nite before taxes and fees) for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ItsMeUC Posted February 21, 2012 Author Report Posted February 21, 2012 Hello thereuare!thanks for the response.Looking for 2 rooms. preferably 4*. under $80 would be wonderful.Do you know if the Hotel's in that area commonly give only a single bed or does it vary? Do you know how much more I would spend thru hotwire if I wanted the guarantee?thx so much!

ItsMeUC Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Decided to try HOTWIRE (clicked on the link). Can you help me identify these:Streeterville area. Immenities: Fitness Center, pool, business center $87Chicago loop. Fitness center, pool, restaurants, $74Thanks!
AaronJB Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Please provide the star rating and full list of amenities showing with each. Thanks. :)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ItsMeUC Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Decided we are only going two nights so prices changed slightly:Mag Mile area/Streeterville area. 4* Smoke-free rooms, Fitness Center, pool(s), Restaurants, business center, high speed internet $88Chicago loop - Mill. park - Grant park. 4* Fitness center, pool, restaurants, business center, high speed internet, spa services $75
AaronJB Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Just to confirm because I'm seeing a different Mag Mile listing 4/4-6 than I am for 4/5-7, which two dates are you searching for? The 4* Loop, which I'm seeing for both pairs of dates, would be a likely match for the Palmer.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ItsMeUC Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 I also received a third option (would consider if both other options have outdoor pools):Mag mile - Streeterville: 3.5* - Complimentary breakfast, business center, Fitness center, laundry facilities (self), high speed internet. $86
AaronJB Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 My guess for the 4* Loop would be the Palmer, while my guess for the 4* Mag Mile would be the SheratonPalmer:Pros: closer to Union Station, closer to museums (although still a trek or taking transit), close to Red LineCons: smaller rooms (if this is the Palmer, which I believe it is - it's a very historic hotel), not a ton open around it later at night (although there are some restaurants nearby, including Flat Top Grill, which I think is a good value for families), some shopping on State but a walk or transit to Michigan Ave.Sheraton:Pros: Pleasant area near Navy Pier, easy walk to Michigan Ave. Lots of restaurant options.Cons: a trek (although pleasant trek) from Union Station, further from museums (although you can catch a bus on Michigan Ave) and a definite walk to a Red Line subway.I definitely recommend Lincoln Park Zoo as a family-friendly activity that's still actually (somehow) free.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ItsMeUC Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Thanks so very much for all of the help! We went with the Sheraton, $88. :-)
AaronJB Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Congrats on your success. :)Definitely a nice deal for this property. There's a large Dominicks grocery on the opposite corner (cheaper snacks/drinks to take back to the hotel) and I often recommend Fox and Obel Market and Cafe (fox-obel.com), which is a couple of blocks East on the corner of Illinois and McClurg.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
ItsMeUC Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Thanks for the recommendations! Also, thanks for moving me to the HOTWIRE board! ;-)
