Windstorm Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 My wife and I are going to be in New York City for the first couple of days for the 2005 U.S. Open (Aug 27-31). Since we're barely going to be in our hotel room, amenities (fitness, concierge) aren't important. We're interested in a hotel just underneath the Courtyard by Marriott quality . . . would we be happy with a 3 or 3.5 star in Manhattan? Also, what would you figure that Hotwire or Priceline hotels are going for that time of year? Thanks.
thenewbie Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Welcome! Looking at hotwire, the following hotel appears to be a better deal:In Midtown East, the Eastgate Tower has 1 Bedroom Suites available for $196.33 per night. Reviews are good, and you get more space than other NYC hotels. This should be cancellable until 72 hrs before the trip, so this may be a good "back-up" reservation if you're still looking to try Priceline or Hotwire.EasyClickTravel.com also has the Courtyard Midtown East for $183.82 per night, about $50 less per night than booking directly. You may be able to beat these rates on Priceline, but rooms will probably be on the smaller side than the Eastgate's rooms. If you need more assistance, just let us know, and please let us know what you end up doing for your trip. :)
thereuare Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are not high during these dates and there is often a small price difference between the different star rated hotels in NYC... what is your expected budget, for if it's realistic, you may be able to get a 4* hotel for what you want to pay. Windstorm Posted July 4, 2005 Author Report Posted July 4, 2005 Thanks, Newbie, for the tips. We may try Priceline then since we don't need a large room since we'll be out and about and at the U.S. Open in early August. We may get that Eastgate Tower as a backup. As for the nice post from thereuare, I would say that it would be great to stay around $150 a night during that time frame. Courtyard by Marriott was in the $225 range on some website, but like I said, we'll be in our room so little . . . and to be paying $1,100 for four nights . . . are you saying that we should be able to get a four-star on Hotwire in the $150 range, or should we expect to be more in the $180 per night range?I sure appreciate the personal attention.Mike (aka Windstorm)
thenewbie Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 are you saying that we should be able to get a four-star on Hotwire in the $150 range, or should we expect to be more in the $180 per night range? We can certainly give it a shot on Priceline. Before you start bidding on Priceline, are you familiar with Free rebidding ? At the 4* level, there are two free rebid areas. See if you can identify which ones they are.We would also need to know if you are flexible on what areas you are willing to stay in? (MTE / MTW / UM-CPS)Off to celebrate the 4th...
thereuare Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 I don't think that you'll see the $150 area thru Hotwire... but it's a possibilty thru Priceline. We'll be happy to suggest a bidding strategy up to your maximum bid (would that be $150?) and which zones are you willing to accept (MTE, MTW, UM/CPS?)Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. Windstorm Posted July 5, 2005 Author Report Posted July 5, 2005 Thanks, thereuare, for the personal attention. Since we don't know Manhattan (except that we should stay there and not in Queens, which we were told was "seedy"), we're open to any area on Manhattan. It would be nice to be within a ten-minute walk of the subway since we won't have a car. But yes, please give me a bidding strategy, and I'll be all ears. And thenewbie, thanks for the Priceline tips. I'll check them out as we go to make our bid(s).
