Priceline Hotel: Resort Hawaii (Waikoloa-Kohala Coast) Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort And Spa

I tried to bid this resort for two days.

Yesterday, I tried 65, 70, and 75, all rejected.

Today, I tried 80, 85 and 88, and all rejected.

Do I bid too early and should wait till March to bid? Shall I keep trying around 85? Or shall I go 90 or even higher? I thought mid April is off season, but it seems that I was wrong.

Thanks.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

A reminder that you're not bidding on a specific hotel (as per your topic title) but on a 3.5* hotel (or higher) in this zone. There is more than one 3.5* property in this zone and it's also possible that your bid is upgraded to a higher rated (4* or Resort) class property.

With the above noted, there are not a lot of 'known' hotels in this area, so it could be that the few hotels that participate have not yet loaded deeply discounted inventory into the system OR that these hotels are a little busier than usual and therefore rates are a little higher than usual.

What is the best rate that you're able to find at a 3.5* property for these dates? Would you be willing to pay a little more for a Resort hotel vs. a 3.5*?

Thank you for the reply.

Actually, there are only two 3.5 properties in the area, and either will be fine for me. I really don't want to go high on the bid and risk to get a room in a resort or 4-star hotel. Since we have a kid, a condo is better for its kitchen and space. In addition, most of the time we will explore around, do a lot of hiking & snorkeling, and attend several tours. A room is more like a place to sleep than to relax and have fun. So I'd rather save 20 bucks for tours than pay a daily resort fee.

So I will keep trying and my best price may be around 90 bucks or so. What do you think my chance would be?

Again, many thanks.

Initially wanted to bid a 3.5 condo at Kona for something around $85. But failed even when I went up to $95.

Then I went to Expedia, and found the retail price for the 3.5 condo is much higher than Marriott. So I tried bid a resort at Waikoloa for $100, and immediately won.

OK, I will have a decent place to stay, but have to pay the daily $20 resort fee. Not a great deal, but not too bad!

Anyway, thank you guys to share your experiences and suggestions!

Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay. This area isn't bid that often where i can sometimes get a 'feel' on where things might be headed. However, you're currently only $2 away from your maximum bid, so from that aspect something will need to 'give' for you to be successful for these dates... either hotels will lower their bid threshold or you will raise your maximum bid. Assuming everything stays the same, then at this time $90 (or more precisely $88) isn't enough.

Thank you. I just posted my new win at Marriott for $100. Have to change my plan because from the released retail prices, the 3.5 stars cost much more than a resort.

I will make another bid at Oahu, and will keep in my mind to use the PRICELINE link here.
