gaomeixue Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 We will be in San Francisco from 3/7/12 until 3/10/12. I have been bidding for almost 2 weeks, every few days. I have bid on 4* hotels in several districts, up to $140 a night; NOTHING. I have bid on 3.5* hotels in Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square East, up to $120 a night. NOTHING. I just tried 3* in Fisherman's Wharf, up to $90 a night!! NOTHING!Am I missing something? Will all the hotels be booked up or something? Is there some large convention I don't know about???Or am I just bidding too far out??Help!
thereuare Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding!I think your bids are coming up just shy of a win...I have bid on 4* hotels in several districts, up to $140 a night; NOTHING.HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Financial District-Embarcardero zone for $167/nite... would you be willing to bid another $10 or so to 'get this done'?I just tried 3* in Fisherman's Wharf, up to $90 a night!! NOTHING!HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel in this zone for $97/nite, just a few dollars more than you have already bid. What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. gaomeixue Posted February 12, 2012 Author Report Posted February 12, 2012 Thanks, I didn't even think to check HOTWIRE. I don't want to go up to $167 a night, because after parking and taxes, it will be way over $200. I shouldn't have gone up to $140 but I was frustrated. It looks like that $97 a night hotel is the Holiday Inn. To be honest, I was hoping (gambling on) to win the Courtyard or the Best Western with the 3 star. I'm not crazy about knowingly paying over $100 a night for the Holiday Inn... the reviews are OK, but not that great. However, if I can't find anything else, I guess I'll go with that. The best I have found is the Courtyard Marriott Fisherman's Wharf, for $189. I really don't WANT to pay that, at ALL. But if it's my only option, I guess I'll have too. I did notice the Holiday Inn's rack rate was cheaper, like $156, but if I'm paying through the nose anyways, I would rather pay a bit more for something nicer. Basically, I'm really trying to get a nice® hotel for a nicer price :) We're already staying 6 nights in Monterey and paying about $250 a night for some nice hotels... I was just hoping to get a deal on the San Francisco portion of our trip. I don't mind oaying $250 a night for an Oceanfront room, with free breakfast brought to your room, etc. But I can't bring myself to pay that for a semi-decent hotel in the city. Anywho, just trying to get a deal :) I think I'll wait a week or so and try again. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of a reason why I'm not having any luck, or had some insight into March in San Francisco, KWIM?Thanks!!

gaomeixue Posted February 17, 2012 Author Report Posted February 17, 2012 FINALLY!!I have been bidding for WEEKS and got rejected EVERY TIME!! I had been trying for 3.5 to 4 star places in Fisherman's Wharf, USE, USW, and Financial District. Bid all the way up to $140. Nothing. Just now, I dropped down to 3 stars, bid for USE, $90. Rejected. Added USW, went up to $95. Rejected. Added Fisherman's Wharf, stayed at $95. WON!(I knew it would be the Holiday Inn b/c of the Hotwire hint from my previous thread, and the topic below mine, where someone else won it.) I'm happy with it. At least it isn't the Radisson :) From what I read online, they charge $40 a night for parking, but that is still cheaper than anything else I could find. And the one place I was GOING to make backup reservations for, the Courtyard Marriott (Fisherman's Wharf) is now SOLD OUT. So yeah, glad we'll have a semi-decent place to lay our heads at night :) Total after taxes and fees, for 3 nights: $339.57
