PLAYA Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Newbie here great site.I was bidding using the bidding tips suggested and noticed today that the 4* hotel search changed from an 8+ user review to a lower 7+. Could someone explain how to change this or am I reading into something.
AaronJB Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The guest score amenity is going to change from zone-to-zone if you bid upon multiple zones and may change at times for the same zone depending on if inventory changes. There is no way to adjust it.If you would like assistance with your stay, please provide the desired zone/s and budget per night, as well as what you've bid up to already.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
PLAYA Posted February 14, 2012 Author Report Posted February 14, 2012 I have bid up to $170 for the 7 zones available for 4*. I am willing to go up to the $200 range. I am aware that the subway system is very handy to get around the city but is there any zone i should be careful of when bidding the 4* hotels as far as walking distances to subway station? This is my first visit to NYC . Thanks
thereuare Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I have bid up to $170 for the 7 zones available for 4*.Please list exactly which zones you're including in your bid, are you including the Downtown zone(s), as these are do-able, but not as convenient as their midtown counterparts. Also, if you haven't yet, please read your messages.Thanks. PLAYA Posted February 14, 2012 Author Report Posted February 14, 2012 The zones i am including are:MTWMTECPSTSMSGCHLHKDo you think this is possible with the max. budget of $200 or should i be looking at a different strategy. FYI I also tried 5* up to $280 which was not accepted. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
thereuare Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I do think you have a decent chance at a 4* win if you bid up to $200.However, note that MSG does not currently offer any 4* bidding. Also, can you clarify which zone you're referring to as 'CHL'... Chelsea??Are you willing to bid up to $200 at this point in time, please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. PLAYA Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 Yes i am ready bid up to $200. Sorry yes CHL is Chelsea. My mistake it was ESB not MSG.I'm curious do you think it's too early to bid for a May date?
thereuare Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 This is typically an expensive time of year in NYC so i don't think it's too early to start bidding. To confirm your zones:MTWMTECPSTSESBChelseaHKWhen bidding 4* in NYC you have SEVEN re-bid zones. PLAYA Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 Well i followed your steps and links and was not successful. I even included UWS so i could include the $200 bid. Should i wait an extended amount of time before retrying or do you have another strategy. Thanks
AaronJB Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 If the top end of your budget is $200, you can wait and try again in a week or so, and keep trying every week or consider lowering your star rating to 3.5*. You could also continue above $200 if you want to extend your budget limit for a 4*.Let us know your thoughts and how you would like to proceed.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
PLAYA Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 I think i will wait and retry the 4*. By the time taxes and PL daily fee are added I am definitely doing my due diligence to see if it's worth it. I will also be watching what comes up in the next week on HW. Thanks

AaronJB Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 These amenities are common, but the St Giles the Court has been seen with this amenity set previously, so that would be my guess. Please keep all discussion of this stay within this thread.
