olsonna0 Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Hello, I am planning a trip to DC from 3/31-4/4 for the Cherry Blossom Festival and we are thinking of trying our luck bidding on Priceline. Any tips or suggestions would be great. We will be taking public transit and would prefer to be close to the Mall so we were thinking either the Convention Center or White House zones would be best. We'd be willing to look into Georgetown or Dupont Circle if you don't think we'd have any luck in Con Cen or White House. We would like a 3.5* or 4* hotel. What would a good starting bid be? $80? $100?Thanks for your suggestions!
thereuare Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! We'd be willing to look into Georgetown or Dupont Circle if you don't think we'd have any luck in Con Cen or White House. We would like a 3.5* or 4* hotel. To have an idea of a hotel in the Convention Center or White House zones is possible, what is your expected maximum bid for this trip? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?Let us know the above and we'll take a closer look at your trip. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. olsonna0 Posted February 16, 2012 Author Report Posted February 16, 2012 Our goal would be the least expensive 3.5* for this trip and our maximum bid would probably be about 150 a night. Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 At the 3.5* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* WH-DT...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CC-CH...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* WH-DT and CC-CH...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110Even though you said your maximum bid was $150, i stopped at $110 as HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Dupont Circle zone for $110 which i'm guessing might be the Hilton Washington Towers or the The Dupont hotel... i though that you might be interested in this alternate zone give the 'win' would likely be at a lower price than continuing to bid and at a higher rated hotel. I'd start with the above and if rejected we can cross the next bridge at that time deciding if you want to bid higher for the zones above or consider your alternate zone(s).Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. flyjetguy Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 We got a crazy great rate on a hotel in the Dulles area, took the public express bus from the airport (not the business bus which costs twice as much), and then the metro in D.C. The Udvar-Hazy Branch of the Air and Space is next to Dulles and some hotels drop you for free. There's also a shuttle bus from the airport for free or very cheap. For this slight inconvenience you get a much better hotel for the money and we didn't mind the express bus ride in and out of town.
thereuare Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 We got a crazy great rate on a hotel in the Dulles area...Can you please add your win to the board as a NEW TOPIC. Although it appears that this trip has already past, it can still help others as they search the topic titles on the board for hotels wins in this area and when doing year-over-year comparisons in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. Please begin to share all your wins with the board as you receive them so that the information can best help others. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks.
