Hi,

My husband and I are going to Vegas for our anniversary 5/3-5/6 and want advice on bidding. We have tried priceline up to $100 on the North and South Strip with no luck. Should we keep going for a 5 star or are there 4 star resorts that are still nice? This is our first time to go to Vegas and are looking forward to the trip. Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.

Whether you continue bidding higher not is really a personal preference and dependent upon your budget... at current prices i'm guessing a 5* hotel on the Strip will likely cost you about $160-$180/nite.... a 4* perhaps $100-$120.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

thanks for the help. hotwire has a 5* for $149/night so i definitely don't want to pay more than that, i just didnt' know if i was bidding too far out or if that is just a busy weekend or what. i'll keep trying priceline using your links and see what we can get!

....or are there 4 star resorts that are still nice?

....hotwire has a 5* for $149/night

Priceline uses "Resort" as a specific category of hotels. If an area has Resorts, it is the last selection on the star level list. For bidding purposes, it rates between a 4* and a 5*, sort of like a 4 1/2*.

When you are bidding the North and South strip areas, there aren't any Resorts available, so the button you could check is "grayed out".

Regarding whether the 4*s from Priceline are nice, you might take a look at the second post in this Priceline - Nevada area. It is a list of hotels people have reported here as "wins". See what you think of them.

Priceline has that separate North Strip zone with the word "Condo" in it. At the 5* level, this usually means the Trump. If you don't want that place, you can avoid it by not bidding that specific zone. On the other hand, Hotwire includes the Trump among its 5* offerings for the North Strip. If you post back here with the amenities on that $149 Hotwire offer, the experts can make an educated guess as to just what hotel it might be.

hotwire has a 5* for $149/night...

Assuming we're seeing the same property on each of our HOTWIRE searches, this property you're referencing is likely the Trump, in which case you're not making an apples-to-apples comparison, unless this hotel is acceptable to you and you're also willing to bid the Strip North Condo zone.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

yes you are both right! i did not realize that the zones were different and the hotwire property is likely the trump. seems like a lot of people want to avoid it :).

i'm going to try rebiding in zones with no 5* and see if that helps. wish that week was not so expensive--wonder if the hardware convention i saw in another post is why. oh well we will still have a blast. i'll post when i finally win a bid.

i've bid up to $125 at 5* with no luck...might switch to 4 star.

I am looking to bid on this weekend as well and have noticed rates are very high, I'm guessing due to Cinco de Mayo. Just make sure when you switch to 4*, you decrease your starting bid so as not to overpay.
