2 Couples traveling to NYC. We will arrive on 3/7/12 and the other couple will arrive on 3/8/12. We are both leaving on 3/10/12. We would like to stay in Times Square area and a 4* hotel. Budget would be $150 max. Any suggestions on how to get the reservation extended for an additional night for one room? Does the $150 max sound possible?

Thx.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.

If Times Square is the only zone you're willing to accept, you can try, but it will likely take a bit more than $150 to be successful there. However, if you're willing to stay in what most consider to be 'central/convenient' (MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB) then $150 will likely be enough. I'd also suggest looking beyond Times Square as explained in this thread: Hotels Near Times Square

As far as your and your friends having different arrival dates, you have a few options:

1) book 2 rooms for 2 nites then...

1a) book one room hotel-direct for the additional nite (at 'retail' prices) OR

1b) book one room for the additional nite thru the opaque suppliers with the understanding that you may receive a different hotel and would need to change hotels after the first nite

2) search HOTWIRE for 2 rooms for 3/7-3/10... then search again for one room for 3/7-3/10 and then again for one room for 3/8-3/10 to see if what seems to be the same hotel (based upon the amenities shown before purchase) appears for all three searches. If so, you can purchase one room for the 2/3 nites, then immediately search again and purchase the other room. HOWEVER, there is always the chance that the same hotel does not appear when you go to make your 2nd purchase (but the original search for 2rooms/3nites helps minimize this chance)

3) HOTWIRE has an 'extend your stay' option. It's fairly new and the wording on their website used to say that you could select the number of rooms when trying to extend your stay, but it no longer states this, so it's not clear if you can only attempt to extend the stay for the same number of rooms as your original booking (like PRICELINE's current feature). Also note that the extend your stay option is not always offered so it may not be available for the hotel you originally purchase.

Let us know any questions you have regarding the above and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
