I am looking for a hotel in Crystal City/D.C area for 4nts May 7-11...if I bid only on 3.5 star hotels can I be reasonalby sure the hotel will be near a Metro Station? This is my 1st time using Priceline and other than being close to transportation I am fine with whatever hotel I might end up in...will be spending my days sightseeing in D.C..

Welcome to BetterBidding!

When you bid on PRICELINE the hotel you receive can be anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone... unless you find the entire zone is 'close to the Metro' then there would be some risk involved. The metro stop does appear to be in the center of the zone, and the zone about 2 miles long, so i would think that you should be at least within a mile of the metro, but you'll need to double check the maps/zones to confirm as well as determine if this is an acceptable distance for you or not.

If this is not acceptable HOTWIRE may be a better option as you could use the amenities shown to take a guess as to the hotel you may likely received before your purchase, and therefore have a guess as to the location (but of course you'll have to guess correctly ;) ). The trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE.

As this not the most frequently bid/used zone as a 'DC alternative', what is your expected budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this trip.

If you're willing to look at Alexandria-Old Town HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel that appears to be the Lorien Hotel and Spa, which gets excellent reviews (a 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating), 95% recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests, and is just a few blocks from the King Street Metro Stop... just over your budget at $158/nite (it's a Kimpton property so does have an evening wine reception each nite, which perhaps is worth stretching your budget an extra $8/nite ;) ).

There is also a 3* hotel in the George Washington-Foggy Bottom zone for $135/nite, but i don't have a guess for this property and some parts of this zone can be inconvenient to the metro.

Any thoughts on the Alexandria-Old Town property above?

You might want to try our sister site, MAPS and HOTELS.com, which will make it easy to find a hotel near a metro station as well as makes it easier to see how much more/less it would cost to go higher/lower in star rating or to stay closer to a different metro station.

Please check out Support Page for any hotel direct / non-opaque purchases you may make.
