Hi, I am planning to visit NYC from 21 Sept - 25 Sept and am looking a booking a 3.5 star room in the Times Square area.

I have had a bid rejected at $230 and am wondering at what price point I should be aiming at?

We are looking to stay in the Times Square area as we want to remain central.

Any help with a strategy would be greatfully received,

many thanks Mark

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

September is generally one of the more expensive periods of the year, due to conventions and more reasonable weather than the Summer.

Times Square is a central area, but it is generally the most expensive/hectic area of the city. Other, nearby areas of Midtown (such as Midtown E and Midtown W) are generally more reasonable. At the 3.5* level in MTE some properties are a little far E, but the properties at the 4* level are generally good/very good location-wise.

What would be your desired budget per night for this stay? Would nearby zones be acceptable if they were more reasonable, or are you primarily looking for TS?

Hi thanks for your prompt response.

Our budget is about $300 per night however I would like to pay less than that for a good hotel.

As far as location is concerned we opted for TS as it is central, and though this is our second visit to NYC we didn't want to have to travel too far to go to the normal tourist areas inc China Town, Little Italy, Soho, perhaps see a show etc, etc.

What zone/s would you recommend?

We initially looked at booking a stay at the Distrikt Hotel but the price offered was really expensive

Which zones to recommend have a little to do with the star rating you are bidding for... you mention that you were looking at a 3.5* property, but if you leave the Times Square zone (see this thread: Hotels Near Times Square) you can likely get a 4* hotel well within your budget. At the 4* level most usually find the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB zones all acceptable and convenient to mass transit (however, at the 3.5* level things change around a bit).

If these zones are acceptable, then HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $198/nite which i'm guessing is the W New York. If you want to try and target this property you could take the HOTWIRE offer, or you could bid the MTE zone (and othes) via PRICELINE and lower your maximum bid a bit from the $300 maximum you were targeting about.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
