DCM40 Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Hotwire is showing a 4 Star hotel in the Hoboken - Jersey City - North Bergen areaFor $105 a night (this is for 2/20-2/24).Amenities are: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, and it has a 90% hotwire recommendation. Any idea what this could be?What makes me a little nervous is that they say North Bergen area and I'd like to stay in JC or Hoboken if at all possible. They also show a Chelsea - Madison Square Garden area hotel for $108. Amenities: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, and a "Still gathering reviews" note. That's less important, but I was curious about that as well. Thanks for the input!
AaronJB Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The 4* Jersey City is a possible match for the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor or Westin Jersey City. 4* Chelsea is a possible match for the Doubletree Chelsea or Ramada New Yorker Plaza.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
DCM40 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Report Posted February 9, 2012 Thanks!Pretty safe to say that the Jersey City area hotel will be in JC and not further out? The Bergen County part of that makes me a little nervous. And I will definitely be using the site links when I'm ready to make my purchase/bid!
AaronJB Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Happy to help! :)One has to be willing to stay within any part of the zone; the hotels that have been reported to the board can be found here: Hotwire New Jersey.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Pretty safe to say that the Jersey City area hotel will be in JC and not further out? The Bergen County part of that makes me a little nervous. The PRICELINE "Jersey City" zone is smaller than the equivalent "Hoboken-Jersey City" zone on HOTWIRE... but neither zone extends into Bergen County. The PRICELINE zone is fairly compact and central and currently only includes the 'right' part of Jersey City (that being fairly central to the PATH train and/or Light Rail) and enough of Hoboken to include the W Hoboken... the HOTWIRE zone extends all the way west to Rte1&9 which is ideally not the part of Jersey City you want to stay in order to have easy access to Manhattan. As well, HOTWIRE's zone extends beyond Hoboken and further north into Weehawken, and therefore also includes the Sheraton Suites, which while not terrible, is the less than ideal (however, it will become much better once the waterfront walkway is complete and provides easier access to the bars, restaurants, and nightlife of Hoboken).Exactly what area were you looking to avoid? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. DCM40 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Report Posted February 9, 2012 Thanks for the info. Very helpful. Maybe I should try bidding on PRICELINE before I take a chance on HOTWIRE.I'm going to be taking a bus into NYC and then working near the Grove Street PATH for a few days. I'll be walking or taking the subway/PATH everywhere so I'd like to stay as close to that as I can. I don't know JC at all and just want to avoid the "bad" areas or anywhere that would be better if you had a car. I used to live in Manhattan so I'm still considering something there if I can find it as well. Hoping to find something that's close to $100/night if possible. For as much time as I've spent in the area, I haven't spent much time in hotels so it's a new experience for me.
thereuare Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 I would think you'd be fine bidding anything 4* in PRICELINE's Jersey City zone.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. DCM40 Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 Sorry for the late update. I ended up bidding several times for 5 days (Feb. 19-24) with no luck. I think my top bid was $120. Since it was a holiday weekend I decided to break it up into 2 days and 3 days. I ended up with the Hyatt for Sunday and Monday at $100 and the W for Tuesday-Thursday at $126. One hotel for the whole time would have been better, but I had no complaints. Both hotels were good and had a amazing views of Manhattan. Thanks for all the help. It worked out well. And I did start my bidding using the links above. Thanks!
