Priceline Hotel: 11 days in NYC

Hello,

I'm coming to NYC (for the 3rd time) from June 5th - 16th - in all 11 days.

I have never used Priceline before so I need a bit of help.

I am coming alone.

I am ready to split the bet - stay in two different hotels, since I get the feeling that would improve my chances??

Looking for min. 2 star accomodation.

And how does it work. If I put in a bet in the beginning of March, how long before I know if I have got a deal or not??

Please provide your desired budget per night, as well as which PRICELINE zones (which are shown on the map on the first main screen during the bidding process after you've searched for your location.) If your bid is accepted, you will know the name of the hotel right away. If not, the service will let you know that the bid is unsuccessful.

It's generally not recommended to bid 2*, as the quality of hotels at that star level can vary significantly.

Additionally, this thread is recommended reading: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire - that goes into detail on both services.

I know now that right after I've put in a bet I'll know whether or not it is accepted - if it ISN'T accepted/is unsuccesful, then they don't take any money from me at all?? And I can try to put in a bet again??

My exact dates: 3rd - 16th of June.

My budget per night: $80-90 (I have no idea what is realistic.. is it realistic to bet $60 a night or would that just be a big laugh?)

Areas: Chelsea, Financial, ESB, Hells, LES, ME, MW, QB, Soho, TS, UW (I wouldn't ind LIC either if that can be done even cheaper?)

So I should bet a min. 3 star hotels?

You need to wait 24 hours before you can make the identical bid again... but you can bid again immediately if you're able to change your check-in date, check-out date, lower your star rating, or add another zone (this last parameter is where re-bidding comes into play, see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, and it's highly recommended that you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board if you're new to the subject)

This is probably not realistic... using MAPS and HOTELS.com search within 3 miles of 'new york city'... select 3* minimum from the filters then click the blue link 'Price' to sort the results by price (this gives you all the 3* or higher hotels sorted by price). You'll see that there is one one 3* hotel hotel within Manhattan priced below $200 (and that is Downtown, an area that you're not considering bidding, nor is it a hotel that has appeared on PRICELINE) and anything else within Manhattan starts at $200+.

Are you able to increase your budget, lower your star rating (not necessarily recommended), consider areas outside of Manhattan?

$80-90 is going to be difficult for these dates but is worth trying. $80-90 is much more commonly seen during the slowest period of the year (generally Jan-Mar)

I have the possibility to move the trip to the middle of May. Do you think that would make any different in the possibility of getting a good bargain?

It depends upon the actual dates, but if there is a difference, mid-May in NYC will likely be a bit more expensive then June.
