I am a frecuent Hotwire and BB user, and I usually book for 2/2 or 4/0 and look for ammenities like Suite, or free breakfast along with the star ratings (3.0 to 3.5) and I usually end up fine. Usually my stays are from one to three days, and I take my chances.

This time I am planning a trip for 8 nights in July for NYC, where by default hotels with suites a almost non-existent and rooms might end up being way too small. One if my children is 6, so I don't have a problem him ending up sleeping on the floor or something. But due to the extended length of this stay, I don't want to end up with a small hotel for 8 nights, and really my main concern would be if they would deny my service or stay, for lying on the number of people. Could they deny my stay or something?

Any recommendations for using Hotwire for this time? Should I end up looking for a suite and pay retail (hurts just to write it)?

Thanks.

There is definitely the possibility of ending up with a small room, as even rooms at some higher-end properties offer rooms in the 175-225 sq ft range and rooms in NYC overall are on the smaller side. In terms of booking for five and indicating four, there's definitely a risk - what would be suggested would be to have half the party wait outside while everyone else checks in.) The best/most comfortable option would be to bid for two rooms, but in terms of one room/5 people, there's definitely a risk both in terms of getting a small room and having to not make it obvious that there's five in your party.

What are your date/s of travel and what would be your desired budget per night/desired zones?

Thanks for the information.

We are planning on traveling from July 1st to July 9th (8 nights), and would like to pay from 120 to 170 for one room, between the 3.5 to 4.0, north of 34th and south of Central Park. If I were to pay for two rooms, would like to keep it under 200 USD for both, and that might be difficult.

Thanks again.

While at this time in don't think your budget is going to be enough for two rooms, you could try, and since this is low season in NYC there will be lower prices in the weeks ahead (although sub-$100 is still usually not that common in NYC). However, before bidding note that at the 3.5* level:

in MTE some hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, and

in CPS is the Hudson Hotel, which has notoriously small rooms... even 2adults/1child would be a very tight squeeze

Let us know if you want to include these zones or not and we'll take it from there.
