shakattack Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Me and a buddy are planning of heading to Vegas on May 2nd-6th or 3rd-7th, either of the dates are fine but we would prefer the 3rd-7th. I was wondering what is the best strategy to end up on the North Strip ->WYNN, ENCORE, VENITIAN, PLAZZO or on the south strip in the COSMOPOLITAN. Our budget would be at tops I would say 175/night with the resort fee. Out of the North strip we would prefer the WYNN/ENCORE but would be satisfied with the other properties. On the south strip I would really like to be in the Cosmo. as the Aria and Vdara are a bit out of the way and not my type of places. Please suggest how I should bid on Priceline as Hotwire is currently showing only the TRUMP as 5* available for those dates. Also for example if I were to place a bid for 150$ and all the hotels are available for this price, is the priceline checker going to give me the most expensive option or just any hotel out of the 4 that is available? how does that work? Please advice.Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Welcome to BetterBidding! For starters...You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates. As HOTWIRE is not offering anything that you're interested in at this time, and it appears you're comfortable with all the 'known' 5* hotels reported to the board in the Strip North zone, it's a calculated risk if you want to try bidding for a 5* hotel in the Strip North zone. Is this an acceptable risk that you're willing to take?As far as which hotel you'll be assigned if you bid higher than is necessary, see this thread for a more indepth discussion of this subject: Don't Bid Higher For a Specific Hotel.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. shakattack Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 So with how much $ do you think I should begin the bidding for the north strip? Is a 150-175$ budget sufficient to land a hotel in that area? Thanks.
